I haven't posted much about this in a while, but watching "The Speech" tonight between games of the Jimmy V classic, it reminded me that I need to keep this in people's minds.

I really appreciate the support people give to this site. I get random checks in the mail, PayPal donations, etc... that's fantastic and it helps my checking account! However, if you don't feel compelled to send me any cash, please consider making a donation to one of my favorite charities; the V Foundation.

Tonight I'm pushing the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Jimmy Valvano was a decent coach, an amazing motivator, and gave one of the most influential speeches I've ever seen. When Jimmy V said:
To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.
it changed the way I think. This was 10+ years ago. It brought me to tears when I saw the speech live and it's brought me to tears every SINGLE time I've seen it since.

When my dad died from metastatic colon cancer 3 1/2 years ago, it all took on a deeper meaning. Cancer affects and kills millions every year. Does "medicine" know what to do about it? Not really...

The V Foundation funds research which WILL lead to a cure for cancer. It's one of the best run charities out there (fiscally over 84 cents of every dollar donated goes directly towards research). If you can, please give to the V Foundation. You can find out how at http://www.jimmyv.org , 1-800-4JIMMYV, or just email me, send me a check with a note that you want it to go to the V Foundation, PayPal me from the main page of this site and add V Foundation to the notes section... I'll make sure they get it.

I'm organizing a 5K/10K run for next year which will be a fundraiser for the V Foundation and the National MS Society... If you'd like to help with that, please let me know.

Every little bit helps people. Yeah, BG sports is important to all of us, but if you look at your life, what are the most important things? My bet is family and friends are at the top of your list. THESE are the things that cancer takes from you. We MUST beat cancer. If you can help, please do! If you want any more info, please don't hesistate to contact me or the foundation directly.
