Just got back from K-zoo, the boys played pretty well! We were pretty physical, we actually matched up pretty well in terms of size with WMU, and we used that to our advantage finishing some very nice pinches and bodychecks. Grover's misconduct was deserved, and it was his second questionable hit after the first sent a Bronco into the locker room with an injury.

Western is a transformed hockey team from what we're used to seeing from them. They skate well and fast, move the puck pretty well, and play clean, tough hockey. It's a refreshing change after years of dirty, goon hockey. Also, the environment at Lawson was pretty tepid. The students were fairly involved, with a couple of original cheers, but the rest of the arena was about as quiet as Munn. Like watching a tennis match on ice. The band was small, but good (although they weren't terribly involved in the game, either). Overall, it was a fun road trip, one that I'd gladly do again!

jg: thanks for the recap! We watched it on the internet feed hooked up to the tv. Video quality was awful!! Everything was fuzzy and when the lens view pulled back it was really bad! Couldn't see the names on the jerseys; hell, could barely tell there were names on the jerseys!! But could see it well enough to see that we weren't backing down any. Would have liked to seen more offense, especially in the first, but as my husband says, "The only shots that matter are the ones that go in the net!!" And I agree with your comments on goon hockey!!! Definitely a different team than we are used to playing! Just LOVED Hammond's play!!!

GO ICERS!!!
BUST THE BRONCOS!!!

You know, as bad as our record has been, the cardinal rule of hockey, especially in the postseason is that you NEVER, EVER pick against the team that has a hot goalie. Teams with hot goalies are deadly, that's why you see so many 4, 5, 6, even 7 seeds make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

We are gaining some confidence. We have competed in many close games this year right to the end. Perhaps, now we will be on the happy side of those outcomes. Tonight is an important game for this team. We need to play with confidence and determination. Western has played well this year due mainly to their goaltending. Goaltending in hockey can lift a team to play beyond their abilities. We are not far from having 6 or seven more wins at this point in the season. How good would we be today if we did not have a record to indicate our abilities? Or how good would we be if the one goal games actually were wins and not losses? Except for the Alaska games, we have been very competitive. It doesn't matter how you start but how you finish. Let's hope for a strong finish tonight.
