When the B10 teams leave, does the conference tournament stay in Detroit or move. Any suggestions?

Good question. Won't need a big Arena like Joe Louis, but then where would it go?

Let the remaining schools take turns hosting it. Let the host school take 30% off the top and then split the remaining total by the number of teams in the league. Most of the remaining teams are not major cities and could use some money pumped into their towns. Just an idea........

Mike and Marian Ilitch own JLA, and they like the CCHA and have offered JLA up as a place for the CCHA to play their tournament. I don't see their love for the CCHA going away because these teams left. I would be surprised to see the tournament move.

Are they fans of the CCHA because of the weasels and/or sparty? If that is the case, then it's very possible that they could try and lure the Big Tenleventwelve League to play a tourney there.

Someone on the USCHO message board also recommended the Huntington Center. I think that would be OUTSTANDING!!!

I agree that the ball's in the Ilitch court. If they want it to stay, it probably will. If not, I agree with musicman that the Huntington Center would be a GREAT venue.

JLA seats about 20,000 for hockey which is way too big. Plus there is some talk of tearing it down. Huntington seats about 7,300 for hockey. Wherever it is I'd prefer a smaller arena. With the league being almost all Ohio and Michigan teams, the tourney needs to be in one of those states.

Yeah, I think Huntington would probably make a better overall tournament site. Safer city, more stuff to do around the arena, state of the art and not too big.

As I watch the regional games of the Frozen Four I hope we're seriously looking into hosting a "first round" game in the next few years at the Huntington Center. I would hope we're at least going to put in for a bid.

More stuff to do around the arena? Drinking and/or eating doesn't really count when the other place is just down the road from some casinos.

Yeah, but I can walk around downtown Toledo without getting shot... And when I'm drinking and eating, at least I'm getting SOMETHING in exchange for my money ;)

Toledo will have a casino summer of 2012.

You guys really think Detroit is more dangerous than Toledo?

How often have you all walked around downtown Detroit?

Whenever I go to Comerica or the Joe. Or when I play a gig up in Detroit, which is quite a bit scarier. You realize that Detroit Mercy is where the U.S. Army sends its combat surgeons to get experience treating gunshot wounds? Toledo isn't always the nicest town, but it's a far cry from the urban decay that is Detroit.

That is just ONE of the many locations they send surgeons and combat paramedics to for training.
