the following is an assortment of tid-bits from here and there on U Conn and the Huskies.
U. Conn was recently tabbed as one of the United States top 20 Colleges by U.S News report
The school is called home by 30,000 students on 6 campuses and was founded in 1881, healthcare related fields are the primary areas of study.
The Huskies colors are blue and white, and are members of the Big East in all sports but Hockey.
The Huskies offer no athletic scholarships to student athletes. Financial aid packages and academic scholarships are offered to those qualify.
A look at the U Conn Huskies 2011-2012 and a "scouting report".
21 sean ambrosie came out strong his freshmen year played in all 37 games and recorded 7 goals and 11 assist. Building on that momentum last year he repeated with 10 goals and 18 assists. " Big and strong standing 6'2" he stands out on the ice, add in he is a tough in your face player that is not afraid to go to the hard spaces on the ice. His release is quick enough, but its how hard that shot is that is impressive."
6 Joe Budnick 5-8 160lbs Ninth leading scorer last year in the EJHL with 25 goals and 31 assists. Offered at 3 HEH schools, selected to play for the Huskies, not a hard choice considering he grew up on the Huskies.
18 Trevor Gerling Freshman put up 72 points over a span of 59 coming in 42 assist and 30 goals, in one of the most competitive Jr hockey going. The BCHL.
MVP.
27 Cody Sharib another Freshmen. Another Freshmen entering his NCAA carrer from the EJHL, who again selected U Conn over others. Another Freshmen coming off a very successful Jr's career who played for the NH Monarchs last season. At 6'1 and 205lbs Cody and Monarch went 25-3-2 last season. Cody racked up 17 goals and 13 assists from the hard places. He is a relentless player on both ends of the ice, playing a moderately physical game considering his size by CCHA standards.
The estimated top offensive threat this year for U Conn is
# 10 Daniel Naurato Daniel lead the South Shore Kings of the EJHl in points at 61 his final year. His trajectory for NCAA is along the same path and has been building season upon season. This being his Sr year expect the Livonia MI native to be the Huskies leading play maker.
Goalies- Garrett Bartus a NAHL Robertson Cup champion, who played for Youngstown and St. Louis. Began his carer being called up 17 games in to the season from St. Louis as U Conn had issues. Garrett started as a Husky, as a sieve, surrendering 4 goals to Bently in a 4-1 loss. He got tough against Air Force a week later stopping 57 shots in a 2-2 tie. He hovers around a .910 Save percent all time. With a 3.45 GAA he made 1085 saves last year for the Huskies wining 14 games and dropping 15
Bobby Segin- A freshmen has back stoped strong teams like Team Comcast AAA and played a Post graduate season for the New England D1 Prep annual contenders The Gunnery, prior to becoming a Huskie. "He is an average sized goalie at 6'1". Plays a strong down game, with good movements that have a fair amount of intensity and determination to them."
Defensively the Huskies are well disciplined and have their moments of greatness and breakdowns. The Huskies overall are a well rounded team.
Picked to be Competitive in AHA this year, and having finished 5th last season I would anticipate seeing a highly competitive series over the weekend.
