Can the Falcons win some conference games?

The team did exactly what they needed to against another bad non-conference opponent. I'm interested to see if they can at least get a split this weekend. They really need to show some improvement in CCHA games.

Yes, they already have the split with Lake. Ferris and ND were tough games, and both are extremely good opponents as indicated by their national rankings. Canisius tied Air Force and beat RIT, and we were able to completely dominate them in both games. If our play last weekend doesn't shed any light on how good we are and can be, it should at least shed some light on what a strong conference we have; it will be a battle all season.
I was at Friday nights game, the only game that I will prob be able to attend in person this season due to travel. I was really impressed with the way we played for at least two periods, the 1st was a bit sloppy in my opinion. One thing that I was really impressed with was our discipline, the other team seemed to try to draw us into a few penalties and they held strong and played their game. I definitely noticed a change in our team compared to last year, this is just a better, bigger, and more disciplined team.
I would also like to take this moment to compliment whoever it is that made the changes in the ice arena. The plaques, murals, and that sound system were really incredible.
Go Falcon Hockey!!!

All of the banners, plaques, etc are changes that the coaches wanted. They talked about changes they wanted to make last year, but since it was their first year, it wasn't going to happen with all of the other stuff they had to deal with. They've had the alumni lounge (where the coach's offices are) repainted and the flooring got a make over, as well. They felt it was important for the fans to see the history of the program and the arena everytime they came in the building. I think getting the team pics out there and all of the other stuff they've done has been needed for a long time. This stuff in addition to the new lobby area, new skate shop and new sound system has greatly improved the old barn!! Love the direction this program is going under this staff!
GO FALCONS!!
SWEEP THE REDSKINHAWKS!!

To me, this is a critical series for BG. So far the team has beaten up on some really bad teams out of conference and that's inflated our win/loss record to some degree. The fact is that we're 1-5 in the CCHA, and the two legitimate good teams we've played so far, Notre Dame and Ferris State, we got whacked at home.
A split this weekend would definitely show that the team has some staying power this season (obviously a sweep would accomplish that and then some). Because right now I'm fairly skeptical. The record might say 6-5-1, but the way I see it we have only 1 quality win so far, and that was at Lake Superior in week 3.

So LSSU isn't legit? They're in second place and they swept Miami. Your idea of legit seems questionable.
One other thing to keep in mind. We've done well out of conference this year. Granted, the AHA isn't great but we have played teams from there in years past and haven't fared so well. We are now beating teams that we SHOULD beat. That didn't happen in the past. We always seemed to play just UNDER the level of the team we were playing. Now we're playing at a high intensity regardless of who we're playing. Coach Bergeron is bringing in some good talent but this year's freshman class is only his first, full recruiting class. Last year he only brought in one of his own recruits (who he stole from Miami

), the rest were recruited by Williams (who did a damn good job given the situation). Give it time...BG hockey is on the rise but it won't happen over night.

Evidently you didn't understand my post, I said our only quality win was against LSSU, as in that WAS a very good win. The other games against Uconn, UAH, and Canisius, IMO we should have won.
Your point about us doing better against teams we should beat is a good one though. I guess the issue I have is that there aren't that many games left on the schedule from here where you can say "oh we should win that one". It's sink or swim time, starting at Goggin this weekend.

I'm pretty sure I understood it. LSSU was a quality win but they're not yet legit. Whether that is what you meant or not, that is what you said.

For what it is worth Paluch was 13-2-2 against AH and CHA opponents over his career. I know Bergeron is the greatest coach ever in college hockey, but you still have to win league games.

If you want to get technical it was a tie.....but I was impressed with our penalty kill all night. Miami relies too much on Wideman's shot from the point.

We won in a shootout. Score at the end of regulation was 4-4. GREAT comeback game by the Falcons tonight though, regardless if you call it a win, tie, or whatever.

Coming from behind and to tie them FOUR times is huge!! It breaks a 12 game losing streak to these guys and more importantly shows the tenacity of a team who refused to quit! It wasn't the prettiest game, by far (outshot 32-16, took too many stupid penalties), but it was the kind of hard fought game and shootout win that gives a lot of confidence to a very young team!
FALCON HOCKEY ROCKS!!!
BRING ON THE NANOOKS!!!!

And 2 points in the standings. Excellent weekend against a solid Miami
