This is how they do fundraising. You try to solicit as many "big" donations as possible to show it's a viable effort then open it to all.

Doesn't mean anything. He might have simple committed to help with the private side of the campaign. Or has other things needing his time.
And
his son is on the team - he might feel it best not to look too involved with the AD and the coaches.

From today's Sentinel Tribute:
But multiple sources said Galley resigned either because he was unhappy with the way the university was overseeing the campaign or because he was unhappy with the way BG's medical staff handled his son's injury.
