So you don't have to click the link.BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. –The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team announced Monday that sophomore Cam Wojtala and freshman Ryan Carpenter will take on the role of co-captains for the 2012-13 season.
Wojtala is coming off of a career year for Bowling Green, posting 23 points (10G, 13A) in 42 games played. Wojtala has scored 15 goals, and added 23 assists in 82 career games for the Falcons.
Carpenter led Bowling Green with 30 points this past season, posting 11 goals and a team-high 19 assists in 44 games played. Carpenter is the first Falcon to score 30 points in a season since the 2008-09 campaign, when Brandon Svendsen (30) and Dan Sexton (39) broke the 30-point mark.
The way it was explained to me is while you can have a goalie be captain they can't really perform any off the on-ice responsibilities like talking to the officials. It's more of just an honorary thing for goalies. With that said I'm sure you're still going to have a good leader in Hammy in the locker room.rood wrote:I'm a little surprised that Hammy isn't also on that list or does the league no longer allow goalies to be captains?
Sigalet was a captain his last year here. What applies to the NHL doesn't necessarily apply to the NCAA.jpfalcon09 wrote:Goalies can be captains by name but can't have the responsibilities on the ice. For example, Luongo is the "captain" of the Canucks, he wears a C on his mask, but he can't wear a C on his jersey or communicate with the officials, as Drew mentioned.
