BG opens the season at home against Frozen Four finalist Union. No Michigan at home, although Michigan State visits twice.

Great to see Union coming to our rink! Hope that means a return trip to Schnectady next year for 2! I like the scheudle overall... although, why do we have to travel to Oxford again this year?

No UM at home in the final year of the CCHA is a bummer, but the schedule looks nice.

Interesting note: There are three instances (10/13, 10/27, 11/17) in the fall where we have a home football game as well as a home hockey game. Without doing research, there usually is at least one time this happens each fall, occasionally two, but I don't think I have ever seen three days this has happened in the time I've been following the teams.
Also, only one home game in January. 17 home games and 19 road games.

For the record, Colgate is definitely in central NY, but Canisius is in Buffalo, which is definitely in WESTERN NY.*
*Little rant here. As a native WNY'er, I hate when any part of NY state NOT in NYC or Long Island is called "Upstate". There are regions of the state: Western, Central, Adirondack, etc.

I thought there were two parts to New York - (1) the city and (2) not-the-city

Got it.
That's why I said trips to Western (Niagara, Canisius) and Central (Colgate) NY. Not sure what your point is.
Guess I could have said two to Western and one to Leatherstocking. . .

Overall this is a great schedule. Awesome that BGSU is hosting some NCAA Frozen Four teams. Union should be fun to see and a good measuring stick to wear the program wants to be. Union is an up-and-coming team over the past few seasons and has been very successful with a combination of speed/scoring, size and physical play, and quality goaltenders. A bit disappointed that BG is making the trip to Oxford again, it seems like we've been playing there much more than BG hosting. Union is very good, Colgate is good but Niagara and Canisius are not very strong non-conference opponents. I would have also liked to play more WCHA opponents since that's our future conference. Also like many fans around the country, it would have been nice to see the newest DI program, Penn State. Overall I give this schedule a B+.

No doubt Blasi probably jumped up and down and threatened to hold his breath to keep from coming here. But, instead of hosting Miami, we get OSU twice at home.
Niagara is a fill in that was scheduled to replace UAH, after they announced they were done. And remember, we were in talks with both Niagara and Canisius about league affiliation. Both teams are wanting to grow their programs but are stuck in the cost savings league. Depending on how the next few years go, I wouldn't totally count them out as future league opponents.
Union is replacing our games against Bemidji. We were supposed to host them next year, I believe, but cancelled because they will be in the same league the following year.
And Penn State won't be playing next year.

Niagara is an upgrade from UAH, especially after their announcement that they were ending DI hockey followed by reinstating it, no-doubt they lost some recruits. Union replacing Bemidji makes sense, would have been nice to size up at least one future conference opponent though. I think BG in the WCHA could be short-lived, I wouldn't be surprised if a new version of the CCHA or some new conference with a similar footprint begins after a few seasons after all the realignment. At least a six member conference: BGSU, Niagara, Canisius, Mercyhurst, Robert Morris (PA), and Alabama-Huntsville. Could be up to an 8-10 member conference if it can lure Western Michigan and Ferris State back with us and add new program such as Lindenwood or Buffalo.

Whoops. For some reason I was thinking they started after the realignment took place.
