What chants would you all feel comfortable chanting, or want to bring back into the ice arena, during games? Just give me an idea or list all the chants you want to hear and will participate in, and I will make a "chant schedule" of when we will chant them. I will post it here, and you guys can give me some feedback about it.

I remember when a referee would make a penalty call on us, Section A would start with "You're Terrible!" then others would respond "You're ugly!" and go back an forth about three times and then the fourth time, in unison, they all would chant "You're terribly ugly!!" They would make up some of the chants during the game. They would bring some poster board and markers to write them down and show them around then do the cheer. Creativity and thinking on the fly.

A few of us from band tried to get that one started again a few years ago, but it never took flight with the students. I wish we could though - that would be great to get back and forth from across the arena.

Not to pick nits, but the original chant back in the day was "You're terrible..AND ugly", and would end with both sides saying "AND terribly ugly!"

Way way back in the day we had chants for opponent off side calls and even one for a player...Dip Dip [Steve] Dawe!

Back in the mid-t-late 80's, Section A had a bunch of Former Freddies that would direct the chants. Guys like Dave Schilling, Eric Albers, Dave Kuhar (former Maggot) among others.

You can add Dave Runta to that list of Former Section A Freddies. I believe it was him and his friends that started "Go Green, Go White, Go suck an egg" when the Michigan State fans would start their Go Green chant.

I always gave props to Falcon Fanatic for that one!

I've seen her sign that one many times at graduation.

Mid 80's

I asked around campus a little bit and got a little list of chants that people said:
When announcing the opposing team, if we have newspaper: Hold it in front of your face, and after everyone's name we say, "Whose he? ...NOBODY!" If we do not have newspaper, we can turn around.

Everyone would be jumping around, getting the team and the fans pumped for the start of the game.

Right after the puck drops - "Let's go falcons" chant

Section A side chants: B-G
Other side chants: S-U

When a penalty gets called on us we say:
"we're blind,
we're deaf,
we wanna be a ref"
or
"HEY REF! You're terrible...You're Ugly...You're terrible...You're Ugly...YOU'RE TERRIBLY UGLY"

When the opponent gets back on full strength, we yell:
"That's Debatable"

When our goalie makes a good save: Point at our goalie and say: "GOALIE" ---Point at oppenent goalie and yesll: "Sieve" go back and forth for a little bit.

When the opponent gets a penalty:
"You can't do that" *clap clap clapclapclap* "You can't do that"

When playing OSU:
"A buckeye is a useless nut!" repeated fast.

*I am not sure if these are original or not, but this is what people told me. Also, most of these are situational, so I need more that can be chanted whevener. I am going to get a group of people, around 25-50, and split them up between section A and the student section, and we will try to make up some good chants on the fly.

Offsides call
- No, No! The puck must precede the player.

After the announcement that the other team is back at full strength (penalty killed off)
- That's debatable!

After a "perceived" bad call by the ref.
- Back and forth between sections. One of the sections start - Hey, Ref! You're terrible. Other section responds - and ugly! First section - and terrible! Other section - and ugly Both sections in unison - And terribly ugly!

Penalty called on opposing player
- In unison, repeatedly pointing at the player - You! you! you! you! (doesn't sound imposing but w/3000+ fans it's deafening)

After coincidental minor penalities end and the announcer states "Both teams back at full strength"
- Everyone yells "That's open for conjecture!" (opposing fans (especially MSU fans) generally have a blank stare after that one wondering what it means. )

After an opposing goal
- Repeatedly waving arm towards the opposing goalie, starting slowly, speeding up, and gaining volume until deafening - Go, go, go... (generally about 10 times or so.)

I'll try to remember more. Some of the others have already been mentioned. I only think one of the originals still exists today in its original form and that is the newspaper chant during the starting lineup announcements. Before the game somebody always took it upon themselves to gather up as many BG News newspapers as they could find and distribute them in all of the sections. A whole arena with fans behind newspapers is something to behold.

BGhockeyfan94, if you can get the student section to stop yelling: "C-YA, BYE-BYE, JACKASS!" I will buy you stuffed breadsticks at Pollyeyes!!! This was stolen from the weasels up north and is STUPID!! Why would you call the guy a jackass WHEN HE JUST GAVE US A FREAKING POWER PLAY!!! We should be thanking him!! Maybe yell his name: "Hey (insert penalized player's name)!! THANKS FOR THE POWER PLAY!!!" Or something along those likes, but calling him a jackass is just STUPID and shows they do NOT get it!

Also, I LOVE that you are doing this! I'd love to meet with you and the new promotions and fan experience guy to try and coordinate this!
