Ferris Game 2

Post by WhoDeyBG »

Lost 3-1 with Ferris getting an empty netter at the end. Burke was in goal. It was a very frustrating game to watch.

Shots: BG with 30, FSU with 15

I have that Cleveland Browns fan feeling right now, so much promise, everything seems to be moving forward but yet we find a way to lose. How can we double the shots of the other team, outshoot them last night as well, and still have this type of outcome.

Hopefully we can regroup against UofM...anyone at the game have any comments on their performance? I see it was a nice crowd.

Go Falcon Hockey!!!

Plain and simple, Coach needs to recruit more goal scorers. We have guys with a lot of speed and skill, but no one can finish on a regular basis. Averaging 1-2 goals per game isn't going to cut it...this is starting to look a lot like last year again.

They also need to get some players that can shoot harder, especially defensemen.
Some of their shots from the point actually look like passes on net.
One reason Kevin Bieksa made it to the NHL was because of his good hard slapshot from the point.

That's because they are passes on net. The defensemen are looking for tips in front of the net. Problem is they don't shoot the puck hard enough for the tip to work. Most of the defensemen we have can shoot the puck hard, they just don't do it often. It's time for a different approach to a lot of things. Powerplay, penalty kill, 5 on 5. What they are trying to do may work, but not with the combination of personnel currently in place.

You have to take hard slapshots from the point and tip them in front to score on the goalies in CCHA. To take a little wrist shot from the point and get a tip in front that even I could stop is not going to get you any goals. Another problem is we are not using the pointmen on the PP enough, we keep trying to cycle it behind the net and its obviously not working.
Also bigger is not always better and just because it worked for Miami doesn't mean it will work at BG. Most teams work with a good combination of big guys and smaller skilled players.

Our problem is that our entire team is not on the same page every night. By that I mean, our goaltender will stop most of the shots and only let in 1 or 2, but our offense is not able to score more than 1 or 2 (a great example being the second Ferris State game). Then, our offense will put in 2 or 3, and our goaltender will give up 3 or 4 (a great example being the first Ferris Stat game). We have been fighting harder than earlier this season, making games closer and more interesting, but we are not able to close up a win. I sure hope we are able to start winning soon. Seeing the frustration on Coach Bergeron's face after Saturday was very upsetting.

We are what are record says we are.

1) 10th of 11th in the CCHA
2) 11th of 11th in scoring offense in the CCHA
3) 9th of the 11th in scoring defense in the CCHA

We can talk about effort, the future, give them a couple years, their young, say what you want. But, bottom line, its Ws and Ls. I'd rather win ugly then look great in a loss. We caught lightning in a bottle last March and it was a fun ride. However, that created a dangerous thing..........HOPE and expectations.

Consider how fair we had fallen off the cliff of competitive collegiate hockey. Given all the up grades from coach to facility upgrades all in all we are still way behind were many of us would like to be and have seen the program at one time.

Exactly. Ted Garvin was not a flashy guy but the Goaldiggers were always at the top of the league.

This is the very unfortunate truth.
