The Home Crowd
I just want to point out something that I noticed this past Saturday in the game agaist Ferris State. There were 30 seconds left in the game, Burke was out of the net and we had six skaters on. It wasn't likely we were going to put one in the net, but we still has a small shot. The student section is standing and roaring, throwing their hands in the air, trying to get people to stand up and cheer for their team. As I stood in the student section and looked at the opposite side, people were just sitting there acting like we were just starting the game. It was like pulling teeth just trying to get a few people to stand up and cheer for their hockey team. We need people to get more involved in games. The student section has taken one step forward, and we will continue to take steps in the right direction until we feel we are in a place that we want to be in, but we cannot do it alone. We need the help of every single person in the arena to stand up, cheer a little bit, and do your part to make the arena erupt in noise for our Falcons. I am asking one thing, if any of you want to help out the Bleacher Creatures, message me your ideas on Facebook. We need to find a way to get the rest of the arena involved and we are willing to do whatever it takes! We need to bring back our home-ice advantage and help out our Falcons.
Re: The Home Crowd
Start winning games and the rest of the crowd will start joining in. I hate to say it, but people have gotten used to losing. Win a few and more and more of the crowd will start joining in. People need something to cheer about.Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:We need to find a way to get the rest of the arena involved and we are willing to do whatever it takes! Re: The Home Crowd
If I remember at the Friday night game, when the other team got a penalty, people started chanting, "# is an asshole!" repeatedly...I was not amused by this, but that is just my opinion. There were also a lot of times where we needed to chant, like the 5-3 and some Penalty Kills, but the student section did not cheer. The cheers seemed to come after something good happened, and usually that is when the puck is cleared out of the zone and players are changing. Timing is everything.

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: The Home Crowd
If one of their players fouls one of our players, he IS an asshole. The fact that we get a power play for it is nice, but that doesn't discount the fact that the player is an asshole. I'll call him an asshole all day for fouling our guy. As soon as he steps into the penalty box, I perform the standard cheer, and then celebrate our man advantage for the next 2 minutes. I understand that his foul gave us a perceived advantage. However, if you want to get technical, I'd rather they didn't call those penalties, because we suck on the power play. That really makes the opposing guy an asshole.

Re: The Home Crowd
Keep something in mind. There are a lot of older fans scattered throughout the arena who have difficulty standing. For the student section to stand is great, you're not blocking the view of those behind you since you're all standing. That is not the case for those of us in the reserved sections. I never stand while the puck is in play so I don't block the view of those sitting behind me.Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:I just want to point out something that I noticed this past Saturday in the game agaist Ferris State. Re: The Home Crowd
I understand some people are older and not able to easily stand, but when I looked at the opposite side in the game Saturday, only a few people were standing. Even when people started to stand, it still wasn't that many people. Also, we are pretty good at timing. We know when to say certain things and when to cheer. Also, we always cheer when our player is rushing to our zone, whether it is a 2-1, 3-2, or even when it is just 1-3. I don't want to talk about the student section right now becuase people have different opinions on us. I think the word "ass-hole" is perfectly acceptable to throw around at a hockey game. I mean seriously, it's a hockey game. Another thing, wins would be nice, but we can't control that. I'm trying to work with what we can control, that being the fans and how loud we are for our team.

Just to be clear, I never said the student section was bad, I'm just saying was that there were missed opportunities.Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:I understand some people are older and not able to easily stand, but when I looked at the opposite side in the game Saturday, only a few people were standing. I am also not trying to say you said we were bad. I'm just saying we did a pretty damn good job and had an amazing student section on Saturday.

I personally don't think it's acceptable at a hockey game. I don't really think it's acceptable in any public venue. I'd be curious as to your reasoning behind, "I mean seriously, it's a hockey game." What does that mean?Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:I think the word "ass-hole" is perfectly acceptable to throw around at a hockey game. I mean seriously, it's a hockey game.
There are children around and they shouldn't have to hear that or any other profanity. I know it's not enforced, but you notice before every game that they read a PSA saying that profanity, comments about race, etc. are strictly prohibited.
Bottom line, if it can't be said on the PA, it shouldn't be said in the stands, IMO.

All you need to do is remove them from the arena once, twice, three times and eventually they would get the idea.musicman2343 wrote:I personally don't think it's acceptable at a hockey game. I saw them remove a student once while I was a student. We quieted down for the remainder of that game.

Re: The Home Crowd
It has nothing to do with me patting my back, it is the entire student section that should be proud. I have pride in what is starting to happen in the student section, and maybe it is because of the Bleacher Creatures, I don't know. Also, they don't really throw students out anymore. We chirp at the opposing bench all the time. We get pretty roudy, but they have yet to throw us out. Also, I'm just going to be the one to say it, can we just get over saying "ass-hole" at the hockey games. No matter what anyones opinions are, you can't stop the entire student section. I think it gets our Falcons fired up and puts the other team down when our entire student section is chanting in unison. When I made this post, it was not to complain about the student section. It was to try and fix the problem that everywhere else in the arena besides the student section looks like they are at a funeral instead of a hockey game. Don't complain about our student section until you fix the real problem, every other section besides ours is too quiet. If anyone wants to actually help me fix this problem, please let me know.

Someone go to the women's hoops forum and dig up all the stupid posts dusty xtreme started on this topic so he understands why throwing your arms in the air to get people to stand doesn't always work.Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:I just want to point out something that I noticed this past Saturday in the game agaist Ferris State. Maybe you guys should have paid better attention to that section opposite of the student section (section D) more then just at the end of the game. Section D was starting plenty on BG chants, and no responses of SU came from the student section. You want better crowd interaction, get some of your people in that section and do the cross ice BG-SU that everyone has been suggesting on here
I was one of those people in section D who didn't stand when you threw your arms in the air. People were behind me and I didn't want to block their view. Plus I wasn't really in a standing mood that night. I stood all day working the football game I just wanted to sit.

Oooo that sounds like a challenge, now I want to see the entire student section get kicked out of they started chanting asshole or bullshitFalcon Hockey Fan wrote:Also, I'm just going to be the one to say it, can we just get over saying "ass-hole" at the hockey games. None of the players on the ice can hear anything you're chanting, I've been told that by former playersFalcon Hockey Fan wrote:I think it gets our Falcons fired up and puts the other team down when our entire student section is chanting in unison.
Well that part of your post isn't going to entice people to help you, granted I don't think there is anything to fix. People support the team however and whatever way they want. You are in section E, worry about section E's part in supporting the team and not the rest of the arena's, they will do it their own way.Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:When I made this post, it was not to complain about the student section.
