Medical updates today....
Thinking we "should" be getting updates today for both Ryan & Connor? If/when anyone hears anything, please let us all know.

Re: Medical updates today....
Listening to Bergeron on the Coach's Show right now. Ryan Carpenter still has two pins in his finger, but they should come out in a week. The very earliest he would be back is Ferris, but this is probably wishful thinking at best. Connor Kucera is fine, according to Bergeron. He never lost consciousness, which was a key factor. All in all, good news!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

It is "possible" Carpenter can play this weekend, but not likely. According to coach, post show, he is going to try to practice with the pins still in, tomorrow, but will probably wait another week.
Re: Medical updates today....
I would much rather he wait until he's 100% before he comes back. There's is no reason for him to rush back and risk further injury.factman wrote:It is "possible" Carpenter can play this weekend, but not likely. 100% agree!! He'll make an impact when he gets back in the games. And in the mean time, others are doing exactly what they should be doing! They're taking advantage of the opportunity given to them!!pdt1081 wrote:I would much rather he wait until he's 100% before he comes back. #BGSU_hockey Connor Kucera also will play at Minnesota State. He suffered what coach Chris Bergeron called "a very minor concussion" Sat.

#BGSU_Hockey Brett Mohler (foot) also remains out this weekend, but also could be back for Ferris.

Re: Medical updates today....
With the unfortunate injury to Carpenter I wonder if the Coaching staff is now potentially thinking about a medical redshirt.
Re: Medical updates today....
Since he's only a junior, that won't be a question that can even be asked until after he's well into his senior season. The NCAA doesn't even consider medical redshirts until the player is in his final year (and toward the end of that year, as well).unfalconbelievable wrote:With the unfortunate injury to Carpenter I wonder if the Coaching staff is now potentially thinking about a medical redshirt.
What a damn shame. How does a guy just coming off an injury end up having another major injury like that basically on his first day back to practice? That's freakish.

Thanks for the info. I guess I thought you could medical red shirt any year if you were hurt and had to sit out, what a bummer given it has to be the final year. A lot of student-athletes could have benefitted from the other.

It doesn't have to be an injury during the senior year. The NCAA won't rule on the medical redshirt until the student-athlete is in their senior year. He could be awarded a medical redshirt next year, as could Sloat.unfalconbelievable wrote:BGwriter -

Seeing as this is the second broken foot in a month, I'm thinking it may be time to look for a different skate manufacturer.
