Lets get it done. Play Michigan in early December at midfield, would easily sell out and would be absolutely memorable

If we play outdoors, it will more likely be at Mud Hens stadium, possibly against tOSU.

Cost to install temporary ice rink, approx. $850,000.
Do the math, and you'll see why this wont happen.

No. NO. And "HELL NO!" Outdoor games suck. They're a novelty for TV and nothing more. In the stands, you can't even see the puck. You want an outdoor game? Put a retractable roof of the Ice Arena.

when they couldn't even sell out the Huntington Center for BGSU vs. UM, pretty much takes care of any idea to go bigger. trying that again some day would make a lot more sense than outdoors.
can't remember...was that like Thanksgiving weekend or something? just remember that the turnout was disappointing. or maybe because it was the dark days of falcon hockey. whatever, it didn't exactly pan out.

I was a fan of outdoor games a few years ago but it has run its course. It's best on tv, you couldn't pay me to sit in the stands to watch an outdoor game. Like others have said, unless there is a big sponsor paying for this, it's never going to happen.

Only way BG plays in an outdoor game is what bgbill mentioned, playing at 5/3 Field next year as apart of the Walleye Winterfest, as they would be taking care of the high cost of installing ice. IMO I think BG should find a way to have a game be apart of the festivities. I just think its too good of an opportunity to pass up on because we'll never be able to afford ice at DPS

I'd be very surprised if we're not a part of Winterfest next year.

We just got done with a 10-day outdoor Winterfest at Frontier Field, home of the Rochester Red Wings.
Amerks v. Lake Erie Monsters kicked it off on a Friday night. On Saturday, RIT women played in the PM and the men played Niagara at night.
During the week there was youth hockey, open skating, and a pond hockey tournament. On the second weekend there were 10 high school games over two days.
All in all it was very successful and probably turned a small profit.

Nice to see and its local.
Being a skeptic, I hope they push this with students with providing transportation, etc. because they will all be home for break. So it may be had to attract them back for a game outside two days after new years. Hope it all works out I'll plan on being their

Should be a neat experience....the sport of hockey is definitely overdoing these outdoor games though. The winter classic and the occasional college game was good for me. ECHL teams shouldnt be hosting outdoor games.

Early January against Robert Morris. There's no students in town. Probably looking at 1500 attendance in the Ice Arena. Hopefully, there's a guaranteed payout for playing in Toledo. I'll bet attendance will be 3,000 with less than a third actually knowing the name of any player on the ice.
Personally, if next winter is anything like this winter has been, it's going to be very, very difficult to convice myself to attend this game. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Outdoor hockey games played in football or baseball stadiums are not for the fans that actually want to watch HOCKEY. When I go to a game, I want to be as close to the action as possible. Be able to see the puck, which players are which, etc. It's going to be a quiet cavern. Havng been to a couple Hens games, Fifth Third Field is QUIET.
For me, the only way to make this enjoyable for fans like me would be to bring in portable bleachers and put them on one side of the ice.
