Ralfs Freibergs Headed to Sochi!!

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

Congrats to Ralfs for being chosen for the Latvian Olympic team!! :supz:

http://bgsufalcons.com/news/2014/1/7/HO ... 44728.aspx

Now we have TWO reasons to watch the Olympic Hockey games!

Good Luck to both Dan Bylsma, head coach of the USA Olympic team and Ralfs on the Latvian team!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Also, Ralfs is the ONLY NCAA player on any roster so far!

Congrats to Ralfs! wow.
small error in the bgsufalcons.com article. Ralfs didn't make the 42-man roster, he made the 25-man roster.

"The complete roster is as follows:

Goaltenders: Kristers Gudlevskis, Edgars Masalskis, Ervins Mustukovs.

Defence: Oskars Bartulis, Ralfs Freibergs, Arturs Kulda, Sandis Ozolinsh, Georgijs Pujacs, Krisjanis Redlihs, Arvids Rekis, Kristaps Sotnieks.

Forwards: Armands Berzins, Martins Cipulis, Lauris Darzins, Kaspars Daugavins, Zemgus Girgensons, Miks Indrasis, Koba Jass, Martins Karsums, Ronalds Kenins, Vitalijs Pavlovs, Mikelis Redlihs, Janis Sprukts, Juris Stals, Herberts Vasiljevs."

Well, he's only 19 and not exactly tearing up the league with 12 points in 20 games as a sophomore. Was Latvia at the World Junior Championship? Would make more sense to have him on that team.

Watching the opening ceremonies I thought it was a nice touch he got the entire Latvian contingent to wear BG orange and brown!

You can't see him in this pic, but you could a little past this shot. If I knew how to post pics on here, I'd do it, but sorry, no idea how to do that.

GO RALFS!!
GO DANNY!!

30 Thoughts: Keys to Olympic hockey success

"26. Under-the-radar player to watch: Latvia’s Ralfs Freibergs. He’s a 22-year-old defenceman who plays at NCAA Bowling Green. He’s also a free agent, hoping for an NHL contract. A good performance here would certainly help."
