BGSU coach is pumped to play outdoor game at Winterfest

The Bowling Green State University men’s ice hockey program dates back to 1969, and over that time the Falcons have won five conference tournament championships, made nine NCAA Tournament appearances and captured a NCAA Division I championship in 1984. For the first in program history, the Falcons will be playing a hockey game outdoors, when BGSU takes on Robert Morris University at the Mud Hens ballpark on Saturday, January 3 at noon, as part of the 10-day Toledo Walleye Winterfest, presented by ProMedica.
BGSU Head Coach Chris Bergeron is pumped up about the opportunity for the Falcons to be flying around on an outdoor rink for the very first time. “When you see the layout of the ice the juices start flowing. It’s the trend right now, these outdoor games. Starting with the NHL, now with college and minor pro, and for us to be the host of one is really exciting. Bowling Green hockey fans are a passionate and loyal group. We’re thankful for that and we want to put on a good show for them.”
The last time the teams met was in December of 2013, when the Falcons beat the Colonials in the consolation game of the Three Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh, by the score of 3-2. Last season, Robert Morris won the Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament championship and appeared in the 2014 NCAA Division I Tournament.
Tickets for the BGSU outdoor game are on sale now. Club level seats are $25, ice level seats are $15, tickets for groups of 20 or more are $10, and students are $5. Call the Walleye ticket office at 419-725-9255 or the BGSU ticket office at 1-877-BGSU-TICKET to order over the phone.
