Two big gets on the recruiting trail so far for Bowling Green this fall, and they both spell good signs for the parity of college hockey. First was the commitment of NHL prospect goaltender Ryan Bednard, a 6’4 stopper from Macomb, Michigan who is the brother of NLI-signed forward Shane Bednard. Ryan is with Johnstown this year, in the NAHL, a circuit that has more than proven their ability to produce goaltending talent for the college ranks and was recognized for his glaring upside with an invitation to play in the All-American Prospects Game last month.
Bednard was one of just four American draft-eligible goaltenders in the event. He had an excellent season last year with Victory Honda’s U18 outfit, his size alone is appealing but he’s a very athletic kid who gets around the net with no problems and fronts much of what is thrown at him. We highlighted Ryan as a potential target for Penn State in net earlier this summer, and he is likely on track for a 2016 arrival in Bowling Green as stopper Tomas Sholl enters his senior year. Interestingly enough, Sholl himself has a younger brother, Mattias Sholl, a 2000-born stopper with the LA Jr. Kings who is a hell of a keeper himself – so Bowling Green’s net may be tended very well for quite a few years to come.
The other big get this fall should come in much sooner, in the form of 1994-born winger Stephen Baylis. Captain of the CCHL’s dominant Carleton Place Canadians, Baylis posted 62 points in 52 games last season up. At 6’1, the Ottawa native has 23 points in 18 games and is within the league’s top scoring on a line with Penn State recruit Andy Sturtz and uncommitted forward Adam Lloyd, all skaters who wear a letter for the Canadians this year. A number of those players could have chosen to move on, including recent Cornell recruit Trent Shore, but they all returned to have another go at the RBC Cup this winter. They are currently 16-4 in the league and look to be in great shape for that.

OTB on BGSU recruits

Re: OTB on BGSU recruits
It's starting to happen. The more the recruits see the program improving the more they want to play for BG. It started with Friedman this year and it will continue to grow. Bergeron is doing a fantastic job!
