Going D1 in 2015...looking to join the NCHC or WCHA by 2017. What a huge get that would be for the WCHA

I like this idea, probably wont happen but I was brainstorming during the day after seeing the newsrood wrote:Another school that would require a long flight for road trips. Pass. How about we let the NCHC have them and they give us Western?
Some form of this is probably not as far fetched as you may think.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:I like this idea, probably wont happen but I was brainstorming during the day after seeing the newsrood wrote:Another school that would require a long flight for road trips. NCHC addes Arizona State, Michigan Tech, Mankato, and Bedmiji
Miami and Western get smart and bail on all that travel
BG, Ferris, Northern, Lake, and Huntsville bail on the WCHA and the Alaska schools and restart the CCHA, inviting Miami, Western, Robert Morris, Meryhurst, Cansisus, Nigara, and RIT
Again probably wont happen, but I love thinking up possible conference realignment scenarios.
I have also seen that Arizona State made the move expecting other Pac-12 schools that have had interest to eventually follow suit
I agree when it comes to what you bolded, as it is what others have mentioned around here, plus what BG tried to do when the Big Ten and NCHC formed. I guess what I'm most skeptical of in my plan is the NCHC adding Tech, Mankato, and Bemidiji (or the Alaskas)pdt1081 wrote:Some form of this is probably not as far fetched as you may think.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:I like this idea, probably wont happen but I was brainstorming during the day after seeing the newsrood wrote:Another school that would require a long flight for road trips. they're hockey players, not tourists. I'm sure ASU will try to spin the climate as a recruiting tool for their team, but visiting players won't be hanging at the golf course with sun bunnies. for us, it's just another long-ass trip.Flipper wrote:Seriously? Trips to AZ in the dead o winter don't sound like a nice enough recruiting tool and fundraising opportunity with the alumni to interest youse guys?
Go home Bill, you're drunk."The WCHA is extremely interested in bringing Arizona State University to the conference and will continue to have active discussions with the institution going forward," WCHA Commissioner Bill Robertson said
What does playing one outdoor game in the history of the program prove? Tell you what..take a poll of the team. Ask them if they want to take a five hour flight to sunshine and warmth in AZ or a five hour bus ride to Big Rapids...poltergeist wrote:I doubt that most hockey players have the same fear of cold that you do. hell, we're playing outdoors on Jan. 3.
no doubt ASU can use golf in winter for their recruiting, but that doesn't help BGSU. it's another long business trip, mostly spent in airports, hotel, and rink.
Taking the student athletes on the road for another week, the majority of which will be spent in airports, hotels, and buses, isn't appealing to anybody around here. The two trips to Alaska are bad enough. Add another one, or two depending on playoff scenarios, and that's a lot of classroom time spent on the road. Also realize, these trips leave on Wednesday, practice on the road Thursday, game Friday, game Saturday, travel back on Saturday night/all day Sunday for classes Monday morning.Flipper wrote:Seriously?
