Western Game Moved to Huntington Center

I just noticed that the Western game on December 30th is now at 5pm and at the Huntington Center. I thought is was originally scheduled at the Ice Arena at 6.

But it's the Huntington Center. Quite possibly the most uncomfortable arena I've ever set foot in.poltergeist wrote:two games for one, no complaints from me.
the real mistake was the original scheduling on a Wed. night with the students gone. that's a freeking disaster any way you look at it. the double-header is a creative way to try to fix that screw-up.
and I get to see a Walleye game.
I'll grant that maybe there was some flexibility here as this is a nonconference game. But, overall, it's unrealistic for Bowling Green to try to schedule all sporting events for when the students are not on break. When these games happen, I like the fact that the university is exploring creative solutions. I like when they tried playing a football game in Columbus, for example.poltergeist wrote:the real mistake was the original scheduling on a Wed. night with the students gone.
Also lets not forget with it being a nonconference game, it takes two to tango as the saying goes. The dates have to work for the opponent as well and there has to be comprise. If a Wednesday night during winter break is what worked best for the two teams that so be itSchadenfreude wrote:I'll grant that maybe there was some flexibility here as this is a nonconference game. You can give me all the reasons it's good I'm not convinced. You're hoping to build what........... a bigger fan base from Toledo, get fans exposed to a bigger venue, have the players play in a minor league rink, whatever your reason I don't get it. Attendance won't be any bigger then it would be at the Ice Arena. They did this several years back with Michigan. Attendance was nothing to write home about. Plus, all your local fans are driving 30 minutes and potentially paying more for parking (that could have been free if you have a pass in BG). As a program gets better you should have more leverage and have more HOME games not fewer.
The Walleye organization wanted BGSU to be included within their Winterfest celebration again this year, they invited the Falcons to play the game at the Huntington Center and they agreed. I don't really see the harm in this as the game should draw decent interest as people will be downtown and some Walleye fans will take advantage of the 2-for-1 deal they're offering.unfalconbelievable wrote:This crap was good when we were struggling with attendance and for that fact to get wins. I have no problem with it, particularly if it's monetarily beneficial to the program. There are no logistics to work out for the university with finding staff to run the equipment at the ice arena, handle parking, security, food, beer, etc., most of whom are students. I have no idea what cut we get from the proceeds but it is likely more profitable than having it at the ice arena when there are only a fraction of their workers in town because the students are on break.The4thHansonBro wrote:unfalconbelievable wrote:This crap was good when we were struggling with attendance and for that fact to get wins.
