A Q&A With Chris Bergeron
A Q&A With Chris Bergeron
For those interested we've given BGSUHockey.com a pretty major facelift. We've got a really good Q&A up with Chris Bergeron too.

Re: A Q&A With Chris Bergeron
interesting comment from the coach on getting better recruits and having them come in younger:
"You need to have depth in recruiting. You always want depth on your current team, but you also want depth in people committed to you. Instead of spending another year in junior hockey, they come to college a year early. This probably will be the last year we have guys going back to juniors for a second and potentially a third year of juniors."

Re: A Q&A With Chris Bergeron
It's the difference between looking for experience and looking for talent that can be developed. He wants the Freshmen to be Freshmen and not having the responsibility of being expected to have an immediate impact. Hence, we have a 17 year old freshman coming in as opposed to a 20 year old freshman. (Baylis, of course, is the exception to this in the current class since he's 21. Hopefully we'll have him for a couple of years or more.)

Re: A Q&A With Chris Bergeron
yeah, and it's also about getting a jump on recruiting competition by bringing them in younger. he's also anticipating the possibility of more guys leaving early, and having quality replacements ready to go when that happens.
fascinating stuff, the way the program has changed in the past five years.

No doubt. What he's done with his earlier recruits has garnered the attention of some prime recruits.
We talked a bit with some of the upper class men Sunday morning. They're saying that Baylis is the real deal. Can't wait to see him play!
It's been a long, long wait, but I think that we can finally say that we're back!

I unfortunately missed Sunday morning's event, what else did I miss?

Loved the comments coach has made about the seniors. Obviously everyone is excited about the sophomores and freshman but I absolutely agree that as the seniors go so will the season. Most likely to have all of them logging plenty of gameday minutes and depending on their experience with the ups and downs. I'm expecially hoping to see Cooper and Tate really have great seasons.

Nice job on both counts.BGDrew wrote:For those interested we've given BGSUHockey.com a pretty major facelift. We've got a really good Q&A up with Chris Bergeron too.

Not a whole lot. It was mostly a meet and greet. They did set up a podium and President Mazey and Berg spoke. Of all the things that the president said, the most interesting comment was that she is now on the WCHA board and she will be heading down to Arizona to talk to them about joining the WCHA. I'm not sure how I feel about that one...poltergeist wrote:I unfortunately missed Sunday morning's event, what else did I miss?
Bergeron didn't say any more than what you read in the Q & A. All of the players then lined up and introduced themselves. Afterwards there was an open skate with the players.
Re: A Q&A With Chris Bergeron
Dr. Mazey mentioned to us that having Arizona State would give BGSU a nice connection with all the BG alums that live in Arizona.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

I feel like Arizona State will ultimately end up in the Big 10. IF that happens, I don't see much for changes to the WCHA or the NCHC.

There was also an autograph session with some "mini" schedule posters. Regular sized posters (with a different player on it) are to be out this week and may already be available. The mini poster is pretty cool looking. They're trying to get all of the seniors on "something" throughout the season.BGFan wrote:Not a whole lot. It was mostly a meet and greet. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
