Is this why Berenson won't schedule us? Because he's scared his 18 year-olds might get a bruise from our big, bad, 24 year-olds?

Berenson will schedule us but only on a 2 for 1 (although I believe it was their former AD that was the real problem). We don't need them or MSU and they don't understand that. They think they're doing us a favor by even considering it. Nothing could be further from the truth. Give OSU credit, they understand the college hockey landscape better than any of the others.

Appears to just be a Michigan thing when it comes to the scheduling issues, at least this season. Looking at the other Big Ten out of conference schedules I see Penn State played two at Anchorage along with single games at the Buffalo schools with no return games (at least now this year). Wisconsin went to Ferris State for two games, and Minnesota did 1-for-1 home and homes with Duluth and Mankato.

Maybe these are just one year things and previous years or next year will be different with those 3, but it at least looks like they are being more reasonable when it comes to scheduling then the Michigan Big Ten schools

The way this legislation was introduced is shady, the "problem" it solves is questionable, and the Big Ten should be ashamed. College hockey is producing NHL players at an all time high, and these types of rules could inhibit kids coming to college in favor of major junior hockey instead.

Poopy. Hope all of the other NCAA hockey coaches can get the ear of their ADs and let them know to speak out against this.

This won't pass unless the Big 10 gets Hockey East and NCHC teams on board. It wouldn't be that big a change anyway. Just force some older kids to go D3 sooner instead of holding out.

As far as scheduling goes, UM and MSU don't need us. They can get other teams to play them.

UM's schedule is so weak even the Weasel faithful are unhappy about it. Their home schedule is loaded up with Atlantic bottom feeders, pretty much the only teams who'll take 2-for-1's. Nothing against Atlantic hockey, but they don't fill Yost and they don't do much for RPI.
But that's on the Pizza ex-AD, and chances are the replacement guy will come around.

Exactly. With Miami, WMU, MSU Mankato, MTU, etc. on our schedule our SOS is better than theirs. I don't believe they saw that coming when they formed the Big 6. SOS plays a huge roll in college hockey when it comes to making the post season tournament. They need stronger non-conference opponents so, yes, they need us more than we need them.

You may need to look out a few years to find the return games (hard to do since I have no idea if partial schedules are even available). Wisconsin has absolutely sucked since the Big 6 formed so they may be more inclined to schedule 1 for 1s.

Good article on this proposed legislation:

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Interview with Don Lucia who first proposed his legislation (and has taken a lot of heat for it!):
