Back on the Board!

Post by Bleeding Orange »

After a three game losing streak we were dropped out of national polls. After the sweep this weekend we are back up to 17 in the INCH Power Rankings. How in the hell Michigan State is recieving votes in the USA Today and USCHO polls and we're not is beyond me, but a sweep of Northern Michigan on the road in two weeks should take care of that one, eh?

Actually we are "receiving votes" (2 to be exact) in the current USCHO poll, which would put us in 19th place:
http://www.uscho.com/rankings/?data=uscho1m&week=poll

The last few years, we have been a stronger 2nd half team and if that holds true, I expect more wins and higher rankings!

Also in case you haven't read the USCHO recap of Saturday's game (or the same quotes in the Sentinel), Tavis MacMillan, UAF Coach, had nothing but praise for the Falcons: "Bowling Green is the hardest working team that we've played all year," said MacMillan. "These guys work hard. I'm so impressed with their work ethic. I couldn't tell who was who out there. They're like a bunch of little robots just flying around. When you play a Michigan, you notice a guy like [Jeff] Tambellini, or when you play Michigan State, you notice [Jim] Slater. But with these guys, it's just one line after another and three sets of defensemen after another. They just come at you. They're spread out well. They've got four quality lines that come after you." (Here is the whole re-cap article: http://www.uscho.com/recaps/20042005/m/ ... f-bgsu.php)

This is HUGE praise coming from an opposing coach who wasn't too happy with the way the refereeing and the games turned out for his team. It really drives the point home that we FINALLY have a lot of depth on the team and that the TEAM is truly that....A TEAM. We really have no huge, standout stars (other than Jordan's outstanding play game after game), but a lot of scoring by committee. 11 players got a point or more on Friday night and 14 got a point or more on Saturday night. We have hard working players from one end of the bench to the other and it is REALLY showing in the games!!

FALCON HOCKEY IS BACK!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Wow....that is saying it all there. That's the thing I've noticed about the team, they NEVER quit playing and they hustle. A VERY fun team to watch.

I've got some Christmas money to blow ...

Post by BGSU99 »

Michelle got me a gift certificate for SBX and I am seriously leaning toward getting one of the new hockey sweaters (even though there is black in them). I like the Orange with the big Falconhead on the front. Hey, FF or Freak, when is the Falcon Hockey Skate? Remember last year they had that Skate with the Falcons on that Sunday afternoon? I can't ice skate very well (really an understatement there), but Michelle and I went and it was fun. I love those guys. Hockey players are a different breed, they're special, and they're fun to be around.

As of last Saturday night, the date for the Falcon Skate had not been set.
Stay tuned.
