And then some....
3 players got game DQs and will sit out next Friday's game at Bemidji. Friedman, Reichert and McLain got the DQs after the game.

Do you suppose the many penalties were due in large part to the league's/NCAA's crackdown on holding, hooking, and other obstruction?

Not smart.

Just freaking great.................
Picked to win the league and BG is going to start the season short handed. Hopefully this is a lesson we learn about keeping composure within games, Because if we are good there bottom feeders will try to goat us in to this type of game. Key is can we stay composed enough to play the next face off.
Go Falcons!

Not smart, yes...but then again I would stand up for myself and teammates when someone started throwing punches. The ref should not have let their player go get his stick, and this wouldn't have happened. I don't think the refs had much control over the game, especially at the end.
I find it weird that the clock was still running at the end. I don't think that the refs knew how to handle when a team got more than 2 penalties. Multiple times where they had 2 guys in the box, but it was 5 on 4 for a while...and the 3rd penalty time still kept going.
But hey, it is preseason for everyone, right?

They were involved in the fight before time expired. None of those players should have been on the ice for the handshake.
I wasn't able to watch the whole game and what I did get to, was on my phone. The third period it was obvious the refs didn't know what they were doing. Friedman took a shot to the back and went headfirst into the goal post. Calling that the 5 that was deserved would have went a long way in preventing the ending. When that was followed by Spezia taking a hard hit after the whistle, and the player straight up charging Sholl, it was time for the guys to protect themselves. If officials call the stupid s**t that's going to get players hurt, and call it correctly (i.e. removing offenders from the game) they prevent more stupid s**t from happening.

Our game last night was not the highest PIM among all of college hockey, which surprised me. New Brunswick vs Merrimack had 172 PIM and 4 majors. Also, of the 8 DQs handed out last night, 5 went to Canadian teams (who will receive no repercussions of this), and the other 3 went to BG players.
I know these exhibition games are supposed to be a tune-up game, but it always seems like whenever the Canadian teams start losing, they resort to playing a little cheap. I am just happy no one got hurt, like Spezia and Sholl (Scholl on his Jersey??).

For a comparison, Windsor lost to UM 2-0 on Sunday. Shots were much more even at 36 for UM to 32 for Windsor. Windsor was 6(12) and Michigan was 8(16) on penalties. I'm not sure if any of the Windsor players had to sit due to the penalties in our game but the penalties were more in line with what you would expect.

Sean Pickett posted penalty minutes in the weekend's exhibition games on USCHO.
