No Students around and Premium Games......Great Idea

I get the scheduling and timing of who's available to play when thing.

Ticket prices will be higher this weekend because it's Miami (listed as a Premium game), however let's logically think about this. Premium game much like the Michigan State game earlier this year or the Toledo game for Football big crowds are expected so capitalize on the revenue. No problem completely agree with that.

However, Thanksgiving break and Christmas Break. No Students around and lots of people traveling for lots of reasons. Crowds tend to be smaller over break because university is shut down and no classes thus equaling smaller crowds. Raising the prices is not going to make up the difference in the attendance drop. Maybe you should go the other away and lower the ticket price to just get people in the door so there are 2,500 people there.

Games against Western and Miami are increased priced tickets, with No students on campus. Great Marketing to families home for break and relatives of those associated to BGSU. Tough attendance days regardless of who BG plays on those dates, your just making it more difficult on yourselves and turning people that were a maybe to a no. Lower the price on those days and draw the casual fan in for a couple of hours.

Knowing Enrico Blasi, my guess is that he chose this weekend knowing that the students would be gone. On top of that, they have to schedule around the WCHA schedule which takes precedence. You take what you can get when you get them.

Miami is down this year, we need to sweep them.

I'll take a win and a shootout win. 5 point weekend.

No points in non conference. Need 2 wins within 65 minutes.

I agree, I think it's crazy that they have premium games over breaks like this. As a student, I selfishly wish that these big games were when class is in session. I know the student body would love to see us take on Miami and Western.

My how times have changed. When we were in the CCHA we got about 2500 for games against Miami and Western and everyone wanted to see UM, ND, MSU and OSU. Now that we are in the WCHA people want us to play Miami and Western as those teams would generate larger attendances.

The teams decide beforehand whether or not the circus act will take place. Seeing how the NCHC and WCHA follow the same format, I wouldn't be surprised if they agree to do it, if the situation arises (good practice).

Don't you go by the rules of the home team? Had we finished in a tie at The Slate this year, Michigan State would have been subjected to the circus act. A couple years ago down at Miami State we were a minute away from the circus act (Nacho rules at that time were different from WCHA rules) but they scored, we lost, no circus act.

For games against premium opponents taking place over a break I would expect a couple of things:

Few students will attend, but they get in free anyway so the premium fee doesn't matter.
A lot of our fans will be season ticket holders so the premium fee doesn't matter.
There will be significantly more "away" fans than normal and they'll be paying the premium.

I'm totally on board with collecting a couple extra bucks off of a bunch of Miami State fans.

I’d rather schedule a mostly meaningless series during a break than have a team like Minnesota State or Northern Michigan come to town to 1,000 people.

The NCAA officially only recognizes ties so winning in the 3 on 3 or shoot out in a non-conference game means nothing except for a moral victory and a bit more fun for the fans. We really need to sweep Miami, however, because their current PWR ranking is only 40 compared to our 11. A loss will do damage in that regard.

That's a fair point. The games that really matter are the conference games, so it makes sense to keep those away from breaks.

However, I think the casual student fans don't care nearly as much about games against Minnesota State or Alabama Huntsville because they have no idea who those teams are. The name-brand schools (Ohio State, Michigan State, Miami, Western Michigan, etc.) are what will actually draw those casual students to the games.
