@ Lake Superior State (1/26-1/27)

Post by mbenecke »

Following a 2-game sweep of Alaska Anchorage this past weekend, the Falcons head back on the road this coming weekend. They will traverse up to the Soo, where they have struggled recently, going 5-6-0 in their last 11 road games there.

We have already matched up with LSSU this season, and we went 1-0-1 against them. We took 5 points in a November series with them, tying 2-2 (with a 1-0 shootout win) and winning 5-2.

Statistically, here is how their net-minders stack up with ours (rankings out of 14):

GAA
Ryan Bednard - 1.79 (2nd)
Eric Dop - 2.75 (6th)
Nick Kossoff - 3.34 (13th)
Mareks Mitens - 3.47 (14th)

Save Percentage
Ryan Bednard - .928 (1st)
Eric Dop - .894 (11th)
Nick Kossoff - .890 (12th)
Mareks Mitens - .888 (13th)

Winning Percentage
Ryan Bednard - .750 (3rd)
Eric Dop - .600 (6th)
Nick Kossoff - .292 (12th)
Mareks Mitens - .250 (13th)

We have a distinct advantage in net, so our guys should hopefully be able to stack up quite a few goals this weekend.

The Lakers are 58th in the Pairwise, and they sit at 9th in the conference. This is another series against a very weak opponent that we have to hope that the boys avoid complacency and come out firing. I think we can win each night by getting 3 pucks in the back of the net, as long as our goaltending is up to the task.

One game at a time. Team can't be looking ahead to Tech next weekend. Bemidji is four points behind with two games in hand as well. Still within striking distance of 1st or 2nd as well.

One at a time is exactly right. Just need to focus on our own game and let the other pieces fall where they may. Ultimately, we control our own destiny in terms of making the tournament, but for now, we must focus on getting each game in our way, starting with Friday. It won't be easy, but it also won't be impossible. Just gotta keep stacking wins. Go Falcons!

5 teams will have a heck of a lot riding on the Bemidji @ Mankato and Tech @ Northern series the last weekend of the year.

Edit: Not that I'm looking ahead or anything...

Yep. And we better take all 6 points from UAH that weekend... not that I know who our opponent is that weekend, as I'm not looking ahead either...

For those going up to the Soo, there's a winter festival in downtown Sault Ste. Marie (MI) this weekend, and Winterfest in Frankenmuth. Both will have ice carving competitions, Frankenmuth also has snow sculptures. Weather isn't forecast to be as cold as is usual for these events, but as long as it doesn't get too sunny, the art shouldn't melt away quickly.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

For whatever reason we always seem to struggle against LSSU. Over confidence? Who knows? Hopefully we go into this weekend ready for a fight...

BG wins 5-3.

Wasn't happy with the play in the 3rd period. All we did was play defensive knowing we had a 3 goal lead. Was outshot 18-1 in the period.

Thank you Ferris State. FSU beat Michigan Tech. Alabama Huntsville is beating Bemidji 3-0. Good night for the Falcons. Now if Alaska Anchorage could somehow beat Northern Michigan.

Third period was a classic case of taking our foot off the gas, combined with them getting nearly 6 straight minutes of powerplay action across 3 penalties. Happy we could get the W, would have liked to see u grab a sixth goal with their net empty, but I'll ultimately take the W and the 3 points.

We're 15-8-6 now. Trying to finish off the sweep tomorrow. Gotta just keep grinding and focus on the things we can control. The nice news is that if we just keep winning and beat everyone that is put in front of us, we control our own destiny to win the conference tournament and be national champions. It's all on us.

Also alot of teams in pairwise #10-#19 lost (Michigan, Penn St, Harvard, BC, Northeastern (tie), Providence (tie))

Going to be some shake ups there as well. BG needs to get the sweep tomorrow.

Someone should check my math, but I believe a win tomorrow brings Berge's W/L/T up to .500?
