Overtime rule

NCAA has approved standardized overtime rules across all men's and women's hockey leagues that a 5-on-5 format is played for five minutes with no shootout following. I think this is a mistake and will lead to more ties, but can also see the flip side as each league had adopted their own rules which impacted the Pairwise.

Not approved yet. Voting is July 25th, or thereabouts.

The league extras had no direct effect on the Pairwise. NCAA did not recognize anything after the 5-on-5. I'm guessing the NCAA thought teams were playing for the Pairwise tie, instead of the big picture win. Tie was better than a loss, and the team could still gain position in the league with the extra point in the skills competition.

I like it. But ties have never bothered me. Not in football, not on the ice.
