WCHA Pick ‘Em 2018-19
Once again I'm running the WCHA Pick 'Em thread over on USCHO. A number of AZZ folks did exceptionally well last year, keep it up! Rules are basically the same as last year:
- 3 points for a win (regulation or NCAA OT)
- 2 points for a shootout win (WCHA conference games only)
- 1 point for a shootout loss (WCHA conference games only)
- 0 points for a loss (regulation or NCAA OT)
For OOC regular season and specific tournament games, there will be the option to pick a tie which will be worth 3 points if the game ends in a tie at the end of the NCAA OT period or zero points if either team wins.
Periodically there will be a bonus question (or two...) worth 5-10 points.
Only NCAA-sanctioned games will be counted (no exhibition games).
Click the link, fill out the form, submit your picks (don’t forget to click Submit).
Top 16 make the playoffs. More on that later.
Three awards are up for grabs:
McNaughton Cup – Regular season champion as determined by total points

Mason Cup – Highest regular season points percentage (based solely on picks)

Jeff Sauer Trophy – Playoff champion
(2017-18 winner - Wi.HuskiesFan)

I'll post week 1 results after tomorrow's game.
We currently have 41 contestants plus the USCHO beat writer for the WCHA. If we maintain this number of regulars I'll re-evaluate the cut line for the playoffs (currently at 16) to keep it interesting for more folks.
16 games are on tap for week 2 with lots of match-ups that can go either way. Week 3 will see our first crack at the bonus question so make this week count.

Week 1 results are in. Congrats to 5 co-winners who are starting the year with a bang: potternmu, Laker Dude, Jbakerifm, Bronco Hockey Fan and <3Blizzard win the initial round of kudos. Reminder there are a ton of games on tap for week 2 so plenty of chance to scramble the standings. Speaking of standings, technology issues are forcing me to post week 1 results going the old school route. Will work on that for week 2.

Week 2 is in the books with tri-winners
Bronco Hockey Fan,
GoNanooks, and
TalonsUpPuckDown each posting a whopping 36 points. This stellar showing was enough to provide Bronco Hockey Fan a 3 point lead over potternmu. But it's early. And week 3 brings with it 11 tough matchups and our first bonus question.

The winner of week 3 with a total score of 37 points is last week’s leader Bronco Hockey Fan whose lead is extended over GoNanooks, SweeneyHawksHockey, and Laker Dude. 23 players pocketed at least 1 bonus point this week, but only one player correctly picked 64 for the number of goals scored this weekend…yep, Bronco Hockey Fan.
Don't forget to get those week 4 picks in. Long way to go here.

WCHA Pick’Em -Week 4" who has to be wondering why they didn't submit entries for Weeks 1 through 3. Mini stick tap to
mbenecke who was the only player to correctly pick the OSU-BG tie.
Bronco Hockey Fan's lead holds steady while
GIWAN currently has the lead for the Mason Cup (minimum of 33 games picked).
Another slate of 12 games for week 5 so no bonus.

The week 6 winner was
potternmu who correctly picked 11 of the 12 games this week and pockets a whopping 33 points. The only thing standing in the way of perfection was an apparent inability to pick a Tech sweep. Rivals can get in your head in so many ways. The pack creeps a little closer to
Bronco Hockey Fan who has had a stranglehold on the lead since week one. Only 5 bonus points separates BHF from
SweeneyHawksHockey with
GoNanooks,
beaverhockeyfan, and
potternmu making up ground this week. And while we're on the subject, the bonus is back for week 6 with a 10-pointer.

Week 6 is in the books, here's the recap:
1)

2) Turns out the bonus was tough as
<3_Blizzard (5 points) and
BGHockeyFan94 (2 points) were the only players to pick up bonus points (total OOC SOGs this week was 188)

Bronco Hockey Fan's lead is down to 2 points over
SweeneyHawksHockey and 3 points over
GoNanooks
4)
GIWAN is now in second place for the Mason Cup trailing
SweeneyHawksHockey by .001 percentage points
Hard to believe that 1/3 of the games have taken place already.

Week 8 results will be posted after Tuesday's Northern Michigan/Notre Dame game. Summary: no one is going to catch
John J. MacInnes this week but he'll have to wait for Tuesday night for it to become official.
