@ Ferris State (12/7-12/8)

Post by mbenecke »

The new USCHO poll was released this afternoon, and we're sticking at #12 in the nation for the third week in a row.

Coming off their sweep at Huntsville, our Falcons will have a short week of preparation before heading up to Big Rapids, MI to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs (4-10-0), who have lost 6 straight and are certainly looking to get back on track. Friday's game will begin at 7:07pm, and Saturday's game will start at 7:37pm.

This series is important for us, as it's one that we SHOULD be able to take at least 5 league points from, if not more. We currently sit 3rd in the WCHA standings, trailing Michigan Tech and Minnesota State, so it's important for us to keep winning to keep the pace with those at the top of the conference.

Goaltender Stats

Ferris State
Roni Salmenkangas: GAA - 3.57, SV% - .868, 4-7-0
Justin Kappelmaster: GAA - 4.44, SV% - .877, 0-3-0

BGSU
Ryan Bednard: GAA - 1.75, SV% - .925, 9-2-1
Eric Dop: GAA - 0.98, SV% - .959, 1-1-1

Ferris' Last 5:
@ Alaska L, 6-2
@ Alaska L, 4-3
@ Minnesota State L, 5-2
@ Minnesota State L, 7-1
vs. Michigan Tech L, 4-3

Both Mankato and Tech swept the Bulldogs. Anything less and we lose ground on those teams.

Wow, those goalie stats have to really hurt after the Motte years.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

I wonder how much of it is bad goal tending and how much of it is bad D in front of the goal tender? A goalie can only do so much...

In 12 appearances Bednard has seen 259 shots (GA - 21, GAA - 1.75, SV% - .925, 9-2-1)
In 12 appearances Salmenkangas has seen 257 shots (GA - 39, GAA - 3.57, SV% - .868, 4-7-0)

Bednard has about 30 more minutes in the net, but they're seeing roughly the same number of shots.

100% Agree, anything less then two W's is considered a disappointing weekend.

With the two home league losses, we've dug a hole for ourselves with MSU & Tech fast out of the gate in league play. One game at a time but the urgency has to be high every game, any unexpected loss will most certainly trap us for playing for 3rd in the conference given the hole will just get deeper.

Go Sweep Bueller, no looking ahead.

With games against those two teams left, not quite in a hole. Behind, yes. Still control own destiny. Two well played games this weekend will keep it that way. The goal scorers need to start finding the back of the net again.

It was surprising how much things really fell off or Ferris State after they made it to the national championship game. I thought they could springboard from that, but it’s been the opposite.

Can we get the camera man to zoom out a bit? Or a wide angle lens?

Seems like teams rarely score on 5min power plays.

That is zoomed out. There are only 10-15 rows between the glass and the press box there.

He zooms in when the puck is on the far side.

Down 3 - 2

with 7 minutes to play in the 3rd, better get our sh** together. A tie or a loss and I'm convinced we're playing for third in the league. Outside of weekend sweeps of Tech and MSU, which sweeping both will be tough with one of them on the road we're digging to big a hole for ourselves in the league and pairwise watching will be pointless anymore.
