I'm headed up to Marquette Friday for both games this weekend. Never been to Marquette. Any recommendations for restaurants etc? How's the arena at Northern?

Restaurants: Downtown - Vierling Restaurant and Doncker's Cafe for American, Lagniappe for Cajun
Between downtown and NMU - The Pasta Shop if you're in the mood for Italian
West on 41: Hudson's, there's a Culver's if you need a butterburger
I have yet to find a must-have mom and pop pizza joint

Arena is modern, many people like to stand above the seating area as the seats are snug like at the Huntington. Jilbert's ice cream is delicious.

Be sure to visit the Superior Dome next to the arena in the daytime when you can get in and look around. The structure is amazing.

If you like books, Snowbound Books is a great little shop. The Peter White Library is also a neat place to visit, they have nice historical and art displays.

If you need to update your wardrobe, Getz's on Front St. is one of the few privately-owned clothing stores still in existence. You can get your Stormy Kromer hat there.

Presque Isle Park is worth a little walk (weather permitting)

East of Marquette on Route 28 is Lakenenland, a free sculpture park. All sculptures by the same guy, they're huge welded things made from found/repurposed machinery, etc. I don't know if it'll be plowed. If lanes are OK, you can drive around in most of it.

West of Marquette on 41 about 15 miles is Da Yoopers Tourist Trap. You gotta be in the mood.

Just a couple things to add (bgbill had some great suggestions and is pretty much the expert on hockey trips):

- The 906 Sports Bar has decent food and nice views of the city and lake. It’s on the second floor of its building, but does have an elevator if needed.

- Plenty of hotels in the area if you haven’t booked yet. The team typically stays at the Landmark Inn which is downtown. It also offers nice views of the lake and I’m told has a very nice bar/lounge. Weather doesn’t look to be too terrible this weekend, so if you stayed here you could walk to the games if you felt so inclined.

- Student section is located on the west end of the arena, but from what I remember they’re not at all hostile. Good sight lines in their rink, but it was definitely a purpose-built arena with minimal frills. BG will attack the east net twice and their bench is located on the south boards.

If you think of anything more specific feel free to ask that as well. Have fun!

We drove up today (Thu). Somewhat challenging from around mm240 to the Bridge. Slippery.

Tonight could (should) decide 2nd place. It will be interesting to see if anything carries over from the handshake line last night. Not sure what was said, but it must have been good.

SATURDAY

End of 1, BG down 1-3.

It's going to get ugly, and I'm not taking about the score.

End of 2, still down 1-3.

Should've taken advantage of the chances they've had. No matter what, need to escape with no injuries and no suspensions. Both may be difficult to achieve.

Another split. Fifth weekend in a row where they just can't get it done against FAR inferior teams. We're flat out losing games we have no business losing, and most of it is just a lack of fight, a lack of desire to finish strong. It's heartbreaking, because this team is a lot better than they have shown since Christmas.

Oh, what this season could have been...
