.vs NMU

Post by BGFan »

For those of you going to Friday's NMU game at BG, the start time has been changed to 6:07 PM due to bouncy ball vs Kent State being televised on CBS Sports at 9:00 PM.

That’s the right call...don’t want both sports going at the same time. 9pm is a late start for our time zone

Gotta love the way TV puts us in bad positions. Lol.

Hoping for a great series. 2 of the top 3 teams in the WCHA last year. There’s every possibility that the points earned this weekend could determine a potential site of a 2nd round series in March.

We want it in our barn? We have to take it.

Go Falcons.

Your ticket to hockey tonight (which starts at 6:07pm, just as a reminder) also gets you free parking at the Stroh and into the men's basketball game against 10-3 Kent State tonight. So take in some hockey at 6 and then file into the Stroh at 9 for a great evening of BG sports!

Go Falcons!

Not able to watch, but following along.

End of 1, tied 1-1. NMU gets the opening goal, then Barber responds before the end of the period. Sounded like BG carried play for the most part.

BG is down 3-2 after the 2nd, though we’re leading shots 23-13.

Gotta find the back of the net.

FINAL: NMU 5, BGSU 2

Gonna find out a lot about this team tomorrow night. They better figure out a way to score in a hurry - this stretch of schedule won’t get any easier.

We’re on a three game losing streak, and we have scored more than 2 goals in a game since December 6.

Have to turn things around. Absolutely have to. Can’t get swept at home, especially in league play.

Let’s go, boys.

Forget about Pairwise, that no longer matters. Hell, forget about post season tournaments as home ice for the first round is about to be in jeopardy.

Have to applaud the Northern style of defense. "They can't score if you just tackle them." Quite a bold strategy that worked.

There's no use in reviewing any more plays in the Ice Arena. Watching the monitor on Flo tells a great story. First one the officials looked at a still shot from one angle. Review of the empty net goal was a blank screen. I guess at least they tried....

It isn't going to get any easier the next couple of weeks. Michigan Tech won the Great Lakes Invitational last weekend. After Tech, it's Minnesota State.

In the coaches chalk talk Mako alluded to the type of defense we'd be up against and he wasn't wrong. It's the same way they played against Mankato.

However, starting with the first game in Oxford, we keep leaving guys wide open in front of our net. Their first goal was simply ridiculous in this regard. Their second wasn't much better. These offensive defensemen are a liability if they can't or won't cover the man in front. Cullen is a good puck handler but for some reason he thinks that translates into the ability to skate through 5 opponents. He hasn't been able to do it yet but I fear he'll keep trying.

Our offense goes through Rauhauser. Shut him down (i.e. tackle him) and we're pretty toothless. Mako mentioned that Miami focused on him pretty hard and he was dinged up a bit. At the same time, Kruse and Johnson seem to have hit their sophomore slump in their junior year. There seems to be no flow in the offensive zone anymore. I applaud the coaches; they aren't sitting back hoping the same stuff suddenly starts working. Shuffling lines, drawing up new plays on the PP but nothing is working.

At least I don't have to agonize about the losses anymore...we're pretty much done until the tournament.

Too bad...season had a lot of potential. Program continues to struggle with consistency and still hasn’t won anything of significance since 1988. Still feel like the team has more potential with Eigner at the helm. Bergeron was the most overrated coach ever at BGSU in any sport.

We have a chance to be 3rd in the WCHA by the end of the night, and within 2 points of 2nd.

Season is far from lost. Just gotta tighten things up and get back on track. Need a win tonight in the worst way.

Not sure where you get Bergeron being overrated from. He did exactly what he was hired to do. Clean the program up and get it back to being relevant nationally. He accomplished more than any other coach here during his tenure (yes, football won the MAC, last season the hockey team FINISHED as a top 16 team in the nation.)

1 Tournament birth (and a fluke at that with all the help BG got) in his tenure isn’t some huge accomplishment. Especially considering being moved to a depleted WCHA and the plethora of poor performances against weak competition.

Why do you waste your time arguing with the village idiot? I found that putting him on block makes my time here much more enjoyable.
