@ Quinnipiac (12/18-12/19)
Following our 3-2/6-2 sweep of Ferris State, our 13th-ranked Falcons (6-1-0) will head to Connecticut to take on the 11th-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats, who have yet to open their season. Friday’s game will begin at 7:00pm, while Saturday will start at 4:00pm. Both games will be broadcast at https://www.flohockey.tv/" target="_blank.
From my limited scan of the College Hockey News database, it appears this is the first time we will ever play Quinnipiac, which is a nice change of pace as a non-conference opponent. They haven’t played a game yet this year (through they do have 2 games early this week) so I don’t know a whole lot about this year’s team, but they were 21-11-2 a season ago, and they’ve made the NCAA tournament 5 times in the last decade, with 4 conference regular season titles and 2 seasons with 30+ wins in that span. Their coach, Rand Pecknold, has been at Quinnipiac since the 1994-1995 season, and his career record is 532-318-93.
They appear to be a relatively young team, with just 4 seniors, but one of their seniors, captain Odeen Tufto, is the NCAA’s active career leading scorer, with 121 career points. For reference, Brandon Kruse is 2nd in the nation on that list with 116 points, while Max Johnson is 4th with 106 points. Sounds like quite the talented player, on a team that only lost 3 seniors last year, so it should be an interesting matchup.
Go Falcons - Beat Quinnipiac!

They are not on Flo, but ESPN+. If you don't have an ESPN+ membership, it is $5.99/month, cancel anytime. Both games will be broadcast at https://www.flohockey.tv/" target="_blank
https://www.espn.com/watch/catalog/2512 ... _Sport_New
Also we are now ranked in the USAHockey/USA Today poll. Coming in at #12 , one spot behind Quinnipiac.

Their 2019-20 Team MVP and best returning player is their goaltender Keith Petruzzelli

Not really familiar with ESPN or ESPN+. I'm guessing having ESPN as part of a cable plan doesn't include ESPN+.AZIce wrote:They are not on Flo, but ESPN+. Correct. It comes with a few different subscriptions like Disney+, but typically you just have to pay the $5.99 a month. I love having it because a ton of BG basketball games, mens and womens, are on there.pdt1081 wrote:Not really familiar with ESPN or ESPN+. I just signed up for ESPN+. I plan to cancel at the end of the month but for $6 I get the Q games against Sacred Heart tonight/tomorrow plus our two games. This is how Flo should operate.
I also get all the 30 for 30’s I can handle.

Q dropped 5 on SHU in the second. This will be the toughest series we’ve played by far.

Should be an excellent test for BG. Quinnipiac has been a quality program now for several years and I believe a program BG should be modeling themselves after. Excited to see how the Falcons do against a bump up in talent.

Nice catch on the ESPN+ change, TUPD.
This is a huge test. Massive step up in competition, on the road, right before Christmas. Guys should be amped for this series, to play against a quality opponent, but they will take some real "punches" in this game. It's going to be all about the counter-puch (response) and how willing we are to keep going when we give up a goal or take a check. It'll be huge if we can win a game in this series.

Keith Petruzzelli who is Q's goaltender is also a Red Wings draft pick.

He had a Dryden McKay night (stand around in his crease for 45 minutes watching play go on at the other end). Gave up 2 goals on 17 shots (probably because his toes were cold), otherwise wasn't severely tested.jpfalcon09 wrote:Keith Petruzzelli who is Q's goaltender is also a Red Wings draft pick.

That's not at all that different than what Dop and Rose have seen this season.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote:He had a Dryden McKay night (stand around in his crease for 45 minutes watching play go on at the other end). Same. Especially excited it's on ESPN+ since I don't have the Flo subscription (I gotta draw the line at some point with all of my subscriptions). Got my sweater and a cold six-pack ready to go.jpfalcon09 wrote:Woke up today feeling excited for this series, should be some excellent hockey.

BG playing like the better team so far. Up 2-0 in the second with the ice leaning their way most of the game.
