vs. NMU (1/15-1/16)

Next up for our 8th-ranked Falcons (12-2-0, 3-1-0 WCHA) will be the Northern Michigan Wildcats (2-6-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) on Friday, January 15, and Saturday, January 16, at 7:07pm both nights. Both games will be broadcast on https://www.flohockey.tv/.

NMU has gotten off to a slow start, and they’ve lost their last 4 games by a combined score of 16-3. However, they’re played some fairly high quality opponents so far, playing Michigan Tech, Minnesota State, and Lake Superior State, while actually beating Ferris State twice. So, it’s a little tough to get a read on this team - but my guess is that they’re a bit better than their record so far.

This is a non conference series - we won’t play them in conference play until February 19 and 20 in Marquette. So while it may not count in the standings, it will count towards our record, so it’s important that we play well and do our best to snag a pair of wins this weekend.

Goaltender Stats:

BGSU
Sr. Eric Dop... GAA - 2.13, SV% - .924, 7–1-0
So. Zack Rose... GAA - 1.35, SV% - .937, 5-1-0

NMU
Jr. Nolan Kent… GAA - 3.12, SV% - .894, 0–4-0
Jr. Connor Ryckman… GAA - 4.71, SV% - .860, 2-2-0

Go Falcons - Beat NMU!

I've watched a few of their games on Flo and they have had very poor goaltending.

The have some guys up front that can play in Nardi and Loughran etc....

Kent has been poor this year.....although he stood on his head against us a couple of times last year, so he obviously has the ability to turn it around.

This is a trap series if I've ever seen one.

After having been severely reprimanded on this board for using the phrase "trap series," I now refer to this type of situation as "a series that we should win and need to win but either stand the chance of taking too lightly or misunderstanding the depths of the other team's desire to beat us handily and thereby losing in an ignominious fashion."

Ryan Stieg (NMU’s beat writer) reported earlier in the week that Kent won’t be playing this weekend.

Ryckman was phenomenal two years ago leading UW-Stevens Point to an undefeated season and national D3 championship. He transferred to NMU last year and had to sit out a year (which has now turned into a year and a half). Give him time to get his game in gear. Guy was way too good for D3. I have no idea how Point convinced him to come here in the first place.

WBGU-TV is broadcasting both games this weekend. They are using professional broadcasters.

End of 1, BG leads 4-0.

13-2-0 on the season now. Excellent start - now we’ve gotta keep it up.

GAME 2:

Tonight’s lines:

Gould-Ford-Dougherty
Craggs-Schneider-Barber
Kruse-Johnson-Wright
Collin-Scardina-Fyten

Wells-Cullen
Musser-Lloyd
Theocharidis-Daly
Malmstrom

Rose-Dop-Rich

With Rose getting his first start in 13 days, we need to play well in front of him. I hope he’s not rusty at all and he comes out as sharp as he’s been all year.

GOAL! Cameron Wright opens scoring on Saturday night with a nice one-timer, on a feed from Garrett Daly with a little over 12 to play in the first period.
