2021-2022 Season

Here's a place for discussing the season in general.
I saw the question in the Michigan topic about the play-by-play voice. Will the games even be on the radio? The schedule on BG's website has the usual "watch," "live stats," etc., links, for each game but no "listen" links. BGRSO's website is woefully out-of-date and says nothing about this season. On the other hand, the football schedule has "live radio" links.

There had been questions about radio coverage for this upcoming season, so we reached out to the athletic department.
At this point home games only will be carried on 88.1 WBGU with a rotating group of @BGRSO broadcasters.

Obviously there's a push for Flo subscriptions. I get it. But there is no reason the league radio stations cannot come to an agreement to broadcast the home team's radio feed on the visiting team's station. Not ideal, but better than just saying "we're not broadcasting road games." Huge step backwards.

Agree with PDT on feed. Other observations:
1) It doesn't seem like there is an heir apparent to take over Ryan's seat so that's an issue - who would you send on the road trips?
2) Is there a funding issue at BGRSO? That would sure simplify the road trip broadcast decision with #1 being in play.

3) Worries of Covid issues with a traveling broadcaster. Pretty sure in the past, he's been allowed on the bus with the team for travel.
Edit: As for funding, there was an issue a couple years ago with a Christian station also broadcasting on 88.1 frequency fairly close by (Paulding, Lima, somewhere in that area) that resulted in BGSRO turning their power down. I live 15 miles west of BG and cannot tune the station in.

My job is remote so I can fill in as play by play for the Falcons on road games. All I ask is a hotel room and to be paid in Pollyeyes breadsticks

For 20 years Mrs. BG84 and I have stayed in Perrysburg at US20 over night, and we lose 88.1 before we get there.
Who's doing the audio for Flo?

Yeah, 88.1 has had a weak signal for quite some time now. I think the farthest I've ever been able to hear it is around the Woodville area when I used to drive in from Cleveland.

Scoreboard watching:
o Bentley knocked off the Buckeyes 2-1. Not sure what to make of that though most picked OSU last in the B1G
o Theo played Wright, each had an assist.

Musser had an assistant last weekend as well.

Bowling Green eliminated Ryan Vallon's position and put that money toward their TV product on Flo Hockey. To have road games broadcasted, BGRSO's representative would have to travel separately from the team. There was also no person ready to step up for the fulltime broadcast of hockey. Extremely disappointing and a horrible look for the athletic department in my opinion.

Really disappointing given the number of people who have professionally benefitted from that opportunity.

Regarding the radio broadcast of games, I had FloHockey for the first time last season, and I'm undecided as to whether I'll keep it--yeah, renewal time is close. For a couple of seasons before that I usually listened to the home team's radio for away games because I couldn't tolerate our guy. In general, though, I'd prefer to listen to BG's broadcast. Back when I was a hockey pup I listened to WBGU while I was in the stands so that I could learn something and get details I missed. Later, I'd still listen to the pre- and postgame shows. So... rats.

I understand if there isn't an heir apparent to take over the mic, but wow is this embarrassing for a DI university in a league of DIIIs.
