vs. Minnesota State (2/4-2/5)
Following the 4-point weekend at Ferris State, our Falcons (13-10-3) return home to take on the #1 team in the nation, the Minnesota State Mavericks (25-5-0). Both games will begin at 7:07pm and will be available for broadcast through https://www.flohockey.tv/.
Saturday night's game will be somewhat more significant, as there is a dual-bobblehead giveaway to honor Mark Wells and Ken Morrow on the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" olympic hockey team. I don't know if they will be in the building or not, but it should be a special evening regardless.
As for the games themselves, they will be incredibly tough. Mankato beat up on us to a tune of 9-2 (!) and 5-3 at their place in November, and they've only lost 5 times all season, so it will be difficult. Notably, they will be missing their HC Mike Hastins and star forward Nathan Smith, as each will be representing the USA in the Olympics.
Netminder Matchup:
Minnesota State
Dryden McKay, Sr. - 1.33 GAA, .927 SV%, 25-4-0
Bowling Green
Christian Stoever, Fr. - 2.67 GAA, .911 SV%, 7-6-1
If we can somehow solve the Dryden McKay puzzle and salvage any points at all this weekend, that will be a huge plus for this program and their pursuit of home ice in the first round of the playoffs.
Go Falcons!

If we can somehow get 3 points out of the next 4 games we should be in control of our own destiny for a home playoff spot.

Big series, don't expect any wins though. Weather may also limit the crowd sizes this weekend if we're supposed to get as much snow as being advertised.

The gap is only getting wider between BG and Mankato. Pretty amazing how fast it got there. Mankato and BG should the 2 best programs in the league. Now BG is expecting to get spanked at home with Mankato missing their coach and best player. Moosbrugger is just praying they keep the record above .500.

One thing to note is if this series is actually played. Not sure if Mankato is going to fly to Detroit and travel down, or bus the whole way. My guess is a lot of flights are going to be cancelled Wednesday and Thursday in and out of DTW if the weather is as bad as they say.

I was actually wondering a little about this, with the forecast for Northwest Ohio later this week. When is the last time a game was canceled/postponed because of a snow storm?jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 7:01 pm One thing to note is if this series is actually played. I would think that they try for Saturday and Sunday before moving it to another time. Let's hope that the storm is not as bad as it sounds like it will be.mbenecke wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 7:03 pmI was actually wondering a little about this, with the forecast for Northwest Ohio later this week. Mankato should be leaving Wednesday night at the latest. Proper thing to do would be contact the NCAA and ask for a travel exemption and leave tomorrow. Would give an extra day of practice in BG.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 7:01 pm One thing to note is if this series is actually played. Evan Dougherty will be suspended for Friday night's contest for his hit on a Ferris player that led to his ejection, per the CCHA.

I guess next time he needs to just grab the guy by the facemask and rip his helmet off. Won't even get a penalty for that.

BG City Schools are already closed for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week because of the storm on the way.
For anyone traveling to this weekend's games: Please be careful and take your time! I'm currently planning to be in the building on Saturday, but we'll see how well we are able to dig out of the snow before deciding if we can come.

BG’s main campus was closed on Thursday, and it’s closed again today because of the weather. Wood County is currently under a Level 2 snow emergency, as of 6:30am.
Yesterday, the ice arena was closed because of the weather. Any guess on when we might hear if the game tonight is pushed or if it’s a go?

Re: vs. Minnesota State (2/4-2/5)
Campus is closed to give snow removal time to work with less traffic. Being below 20 degrees means the salt doesn't work very well. Moose posted a comment last night that conditions would be reevaluated today, but plan on the games being played on schedule. There was an email that supposedly went out to students last night saying the same. Mankato is already here.mbenecke wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 11:39 am BG’s main campus was closed on Thursday, and it’s closed again today because of the weather.
