vs. St. Thomas (11/11-11/12)

Following a solidly competitive series with Michigan Tech that included a dominant 6-1 victory on Saturday night, our Falcons (3-7-0) continue their homestead with a series against St. Thomas (2-8-0) this weekend. Both games will begin at 7:07pm and will be available to stream through FloHockey.

This St. Thomas team has played some close games with Penn State and Minnesota State, so they might be a little feistier than last season, when we beat them all 4 times we played. And of course, they are coached by (the infamous) Rico Blasi, so you know the crowd will be letting him have it this weekend. Former Falcon Garrett Daly (#5) also transferred there to play this year, so that’s something to keep an eye on as well. He has 1 point in 6 appearances, to date.

Their best players are Lucas Wahlin and Ryan O’Neill, who have 8 points each on the year, so those are their guys that we’ll have to pay extra attention to this weekend.

Goalie Matchup:

BGSU
Christian Stoever, So. - 3.42 GAA, .905 SV%
Zack Rose, Sr. - 3.25 GAA, .902 SV%

UST
Aaron Trotter, Fr. - 3.72 GAA, .882 SV%
Ethan Roberts, Fr. - 4.01 GAA, .882 SV%

Would love to see 6 points and a sweep this weekend. Let’s go Falcons!

Were current students even born when Blasi was relevant to BG hockey?

Ha! I'm 24 now, so I was like... 12?

I was more speaking for the older (and wiser!) crowd, chirping him a bit.

I need to get my 6 year old hooked on making posters for games. "TAKE A BOW, RICO" would be awesome coming from a little kid.

Pretty simple - mimic the effort from this past weekend and the results should be positive. Whether or not that happens is another story. BG has a bad history of playing down to inferior talent (remember some of those UAH games) and right now they can ill-afford to incur a slip up.

I attended the welcome Zoom call with Derek last night and saw this morning he purchased swag for the game tonight. I would not be surprised to see him make an appearance in the lounge this evening during Curtis' coaches talk.

Anybody have questions they want asked?

Is Rose injured again? What adjustments have the coaches made from the start of the season?

Ty's presser on Tuesday said Rose has been out with injury. He practiced Monday and had an MRI scheduled for Tuesday. Was hopeful to see him this weekend.

Rose messed up his other hip. He’s in rehab right now. Not in a position to see ice time soon. Fyten is also doing rehab. No timetable for him. Pfoh is back. Parker skated for the first time yesterday.

Nothing earth shattering on changes to the system. Game plan against Rico is to use our speed and pressure them cause they have a bunch of freshmen.

Pretty solid period. We put a lot of pressure on them, and the PP looked good.

That last second goal that tied it hurt, though. Need to be in better position to stop the puck.

1-1 after the first.

Thought I saw the original Kruzer, Gary Kruzich, in the house. Sure looked like him.

Edit: yep

Falcons lead 2-1 after the middle frame.

4th line is working hard. Rewarded with a goal and more ice time.

Grant loses his stick, stays in the play, blocks a shot.

Think that was Coyle. He skated off right after the final horn, before the handshake line. Holding his arm.

Good win. Stoever will be an amazing goalie if he can learn how to control his slides to get back in position quicker.
