@ Ferris State (11/18-11/19)

Post by mbenecke »

Following a sweep of St. Thomas, our Falcons (5-7-0) head north to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs (3-5-2). Friday’s game will begin at 7:07pm, with Saturday’s contest beginning at 6:07pm. Both will be available to stream through FloHockey.

Ferris enters this series following a 5-1 exhibition win against Mercyhurst this past Saturday. Before that, they had lost and tied with Bemidji and split a home series with St. Thomas. They also have splits with Michigan Tech and Canisius on their resume.

Against this team a season ago, our Falcons were 2-2-0 against this Ferris squad, splitting both at home and on the road. In order for us to keep pace at the top of the CCHA, we need to find a way to get a good sum of points this weekend.

Goalie Matchup:

BGSU
Christian Stoever, So. - 3.11 GAA, .910 SV%
Zack Rose, Sr. - 3.25 GAA, .902 SV%

Ferris
Logan Stein, Jr. - 2.36 GAA, .928 SV%
Noah Giesbrecht, So. - 3.21 GAA, .890 SV%

Let’s go Falcons!

Needs to be a sweep. It's hockey, so anything can happen, but Ferris is not a great team, and if BG wants to show that they can compete in the CCHA, they need two outright wins.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

This is what I wanted to say, but I was also trying to give myself room to be "happy" with the result if we only get 4 or 5 points out of the weekend. Lol

Yes. This team is not good, and if we are going to meet our goals this year, we need to beat them twice.

Ferris State isn't a great team. But, they always seem to put something together to make it rough on BG. I expect a hard forecheck from Ferris to prevent the end-to-end setup plays. I believe BG had 2 or 3 of those against St Thomas, and one or two against Tech. Bob Daniels has been around like enough to know you don't give them time behind their net, those plays don't develop.

Watching Ty's presser on Friday, it seemed like he wasn't happy. Stoever could be a top 10 NCAA goaltender statistically if they can improve the play in their own zone. Top 5 if he can learn to better control his lateral movement. The play in front of him Friday and Saturday night will make wins difficult, especially against a team like Ferris.

Ryan O'Hara was named the CCHA Forward of the Week for his effort against St. Thomas this past weekend.

Anyone thinking of making the trip this weekend to Ferris, there is several rounds of lake effect snow expected in the Big Rapids area from Thursday through Saturday. They are expecting a foot of snow over the three days. I like making the trip normally, but I am taking a pass this year. Very hard area to drive in the snow.

Thanks for the update on the weather, I was contemplating going for one of the two nights. Will now wait to see how it looks.

Like Coach said in his presser, probably going to be a tightly contested weekend. Ferris is a similar team to St. Thomas, scrappy with good goaltending and can capitalize on their chances. Looking to see if BG can tighten up in their own end and be less reliant on Stoever (or Rose) in having to bail them out.

Yeah they’re under a Winter Storm Warning. Buffalo though is basically going to be buried 2-4’ of snow expected

Eric Parker is finally healthy and back in the lineup. He’s missed the past month.

Good boost to the lineup to finally be able to put 7 defensemen out there.

Ferris’ goalie is playing like Ken Dryden.
