vs. Minnesota State (12/9-12/10)

Post by mbenecke »

Following a sweep up north, our First Place Falcons (8-8-0) return home for a rather large series against Minnesota State (8-7-1). Both games this weekend will begin at 7:07pm and will be available to stream through FloHockey.

Minnesota State enters this series following a rough weekend being swept by Ferris State at home. It’s been a long time since the Mavericks have been swept period, so I have a feeling this team is going to be highly motivated after that result, so we’re going to likely see a focused and feisty team this weekend.

Against this team a season ago, our Falcons were 0-4-0, so we will need to turn the tide if we hope to win against this team. In order for us to keep pace at the top of the CCHA, we need to find a way to get a good sum of points this weekend. If we can manage a split or better, we will be in very good shape moving forward.

Goalie Matchup:

BGSU
Christian Stoever, So. - 2.68 GAA, .922 SV%
Zack Rose, Sr. - 3.44 GAA, .891 SV%

Minnesota State
Keenan Rancier, So. - 2.26 GAA, .901 SV%
Alex Tracy, Fr. - 2.06 GAA, .876 SV%

Let’s go Falcons!

The last time the Mavs were swept was Dec 14/15 2018 by BG at the Slate. What a series (this was the series Hastings missed while coaching the world juniors)!! The last time the Mavs were swept in Mankato was Oct 9/10 2015 with Omaha doing the honors (Mav on Mav). Seven years without being swept at home. Incredible.

They are gonna be loaded for bear this coming weekend.

Have to hope whatever was affecting LSSU last week stays up there. Eigner hinted that BG was fighting through it against Ferris, so hopefully healthy players this coming weekend. It's entirely possible Mankato was fighting something off the ice as well.

Interesting that the Zoom reporter brought up Swankler’s play. He must read AZZ before the presser.

Tied at 0 after the first.

If you don’t have anywhere to be tomorrow, take a shot any time this play by play guy calls this a rivalry game. I’ll let you know how the third period goes. Lol

I thought for the first 16 min we were the better team. Brain cramped for about 2.5 min then finished well. Can we do this for 40 more min?

Who are these guys? They sound like MSU's radio guys? Is Kevin sick or something? The broadcast is terrible.

One, I believe, is Caleb Spinner. I looked him up on Twitter and he appears to be an Ohio State student that calls games for BTN+. Not great.

After a Mavs goal, Swankler strikes right back.

We’re tied 1-1 with 15:45 to play in the second period.

Halfway through the second, we’re barely holding on. Anytime a Mav player thinks about shooting the office officials count it as a SOG.

They’re on pace for 70 shots on goal. Lol

This isn’t sustainable. We must defend better. Can’t put it all on Stoever.

We were not the better team that period. Blech. Down 2-1.

Really unlucky bounce leads to a Mav goal. I guess you earn your bounces in hockey, but man… we want that one back.

Mankato leads 2-1 after two periods.

Tough loss. Good effort, special teams largely the difference. Try to get a split tomorrow.
