What would you want?
Out of curiosity…there is probably an above avg chance that Bergeron and Eigner are both fired after 23-24.
Would Falcon hockey fans want Bergeron back? He did prove he could finish in 3rd place in a mediocre conference for a good stretch, but probably wouldn’t win anything of significance.
I personally think there would be much better options out there, but I would bet BG would fall all over themselves to hire him back. Probably to a big raise too.

Would I take Bergeron’s success over what we’ve been seeing the past 2 years? Yes, without question.
Do I want more than just that? Also yes.
Who are the better options? And how realistic are they?

Bergeron didn't exactly leave on good terms, the absence of Miami on the schedule proves that. I can't imagine there's anyone here with hiring power who'd be happy to see him at the moment.

Chris Brooks was a very successful D3 head coach (1 national title and runner-up twice in 6 years) before taking the assistant job at Michigan Tech. He's at Clarkson now. Unless they interviewed him and passed four years ago, I think he'd take the job in a heartbeat.

Re: What would you want?
If we become certain that this staff can’t turn things around (I’m still hopeful, perhaps naively), I think I’d want Adam Krug from Adrian.
18-3-2 this year so far after going 31-1-0 and winning the D3 national title last year. Elite D3 program, and local enough that it feels like it would be a cultural fit. If we could get him, I’d be thrilled.
He has been at Adrian since 2014. In that time, he has 7 conference regular season titles, 4 conference tournament titles, 3 Frozen Fours, and a D3 national championship.
Seasons:
14-15: 24-4-3
15-16: 24-4-1
16-17: 20-7-2
17-18: 24-6-0
18-19: 20-8-1
19-20: 21-5-3
20-21: 16-6-1
21-22: 31-1-0
22-23: 18-3-2 (so far)
Krug is from Livonia, MI - about an hour and 15 minutes north of campus. He played at Wayne State and then Adrian. Played pro hockey for a number of teams including the Cincinnati Cyclones and Toledo Walleye. Only 39 years old, which makes you think he might have some success recruiting as a younger guy.
Just feels like a guy that would fit.

That philosophy of going to lower level school coaches seems to have worked for Women's Basketball. I wouldn't be opposed to giving it a chance instead of bring in an alum or some assistant from a successful program and once they build this back up will only leave to go back to their alumni ala Mason, York, Bergeron.

Is he related to Torey Krug?

Re: What would you want?
I have no desire to ever see Chris Bergeron behind the home team bench at the Slate unless it's for the clubbers or the women's team.
I find Todd Knott to be an interesting name but I think he has his sights set on a blue blood job and wouldn't be here very long. On, Wisconsin!
What's the deal with this Dennis Williams guy I kept hearing about during this WJC thing this past winter or does he hang out with Garry Galley in the bar named "Bridges That Have Been Burned to a Crisp?"
Can Scott Slater pick up delta on Disco Dan's salary and what are the odds that scenario would even work? I have my doubts about that one.
Nice thread, TommyG. I guess jubilee comes a few weeks early for you this year. Unblocked (at least for now).

Re: What would you want?
Hiring someone from an established program would be a win. TUPD mentioned Knott. I'd look at someone from Denver, SCSU, NoDak, WMU, UM, but someone with a track record of recruiting well and who can implement systems that translate well to the current game. We can all agree this current staff isn't it, and without lucking into Swankler I'd imagine the current season would look much worse.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 12:58 pm I have no desire to ever see Chris Bergeron behind the home team bench at the Slate unless it's for the clubbers or the women's team.

Only about 14 years too late on that one. Yet he keeps on winning.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 12:58 pm

Yeah, I think they burned that bridge when they hired Bergeron. I understand why they did it, but man, it stings.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 9:09 pmOnly about 14 years too late on that one. Yet he keeps on winning.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 12:58 pm

I haven't seen them play for a few years, since the school where I work has refused to schedule them since they deliberately broke our captain's femur. They're a frickin' goon squad.mbenecke wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 11:57 pm If we become certain that this staff can’t turn things around (I’m still hopeful, perhaps naively), I think I’d want Adam Krug from Adrian.

Re: What would you want?
Krug would likely need to take a D1 assistant job first before getting a head coach position. Not sure he has enough contacts to recruit well at this level.

I'm in the dark here. What did Berge do to burn bridges at BG?
