Robert Morris (@ 10/7, vs. 10/8)

Post by jpfalcon09 »

There's hockey this weekend amidst the hazing investigation. BG gets the pleasure of a home-and-home with Robert Morris, their first games back in D1 after shuttering their program. Seem to be a million question marks and zero answers at this point. Curious to see if any news is released this week.

These games shouldn't even be close. Even with all the distractions, they should be put away early. Unfortunately, I think the only reasonable expectation is whoever is on the ice is competing, not just clocked in as "present." Not knowing who the missing players are leaves a lot of big question marks. But that just gives the new faces more opportunities to show what they have. If someone was as big of a problem as rumored, we could see a whole new attitude on the ice.

I'm really hoping for this. Maybe a case of addition by subtraction.

You could see hints of it the last two seasons. I mainly noticed it on the ice from one or two players, so not sure exactly how deep it was rooted, or if the room is still divided on the matter. That last part is going to play the biggest role in the outcome of this season.

Tuesday should be the weekly presser? At least it has been in the past.

Maybe? The athletic department has been crickets with the program since the hazing allegations and Swankler transfer. It's like it doesn't even exist at this point. Not sure what there is to talk about anyways if the investigation is taboo. Media can listen to the CCHA preseason interview with Carr since it'll probably be a rehashing of that interview.

Instagram account is showing signs of life. It posted about the home-opener and where to get tickets.

I had a funny thought today that Eigner is behind the bench and no one is suspended come Saturday, without an announcement.

After 3 weeks, a "hey, we haven't forgotten about this, this is where we are in the process" announcement shouldn't be too much to ask.

It's possible that who the suspended players are has something to do with the crickets.

Could be, but if you're trying to sell tickets and generate whatever excitement you can, radio silence isn't the way to do it. Nothing from DVDM or the athletic department social media accounts. Just a bland X and IG post from the hockey account about buying tickets for a product that is essentially an unknown quantity at this point.

I think the more concerning part is the local media not demanding some form of explanation. Three weeks later and the Sentinel Tribune is just waiting to let BGSU write the details for them.

Sent-Trib hockey representative is a BG student. I don't expect anything to come from them. I'd like to think someone on Briggs' level has poked around, but then again it's a middling hockey program and it might not be worth the effort. Some transparency from the school would be nice. Several college hockey media types have been very critical in the way BGSU has handled this.

I'm guessing no press conference today since nothing was streamed on social media - at least that was the case last year with Ty.

WTOL11 and 13ABC still exist right? If Briggs leaves Toledo, BGSU is home free of criticism. And even he has began to let up some on BGSU because he realizes it can’t get out of its own way. I can’t imagine another D1 school where 3 players could be suspended and the people around it are kind enough, and local media cares so little, to keep the suspended names silent. At what point do you realize no matter what the investigation finds you’ve got serious questions to be answered?
