@ Niagara (10/10-11)

Regular season hockey has arrived. BG travels to Niagara for their true season opener this weekend. Friday night at 6:00pm, Saturday night at 5:00pm. Naturally, both games will be available to stream on Flo.

I never have much analysis early in the season, and this year is no different. Curious to see the lineups for a regular game, and to see how we grow throughout the weekend. Would love to come home with a pair of wins, but early October hockey can be weird.

Go Falcons! Beat Niagara.

Niagara beat St Lawrence 5-2 this weekend at home in a penalty fest. They were 3/6 on the powerplay and killed off all 5 penalty kills. It was a real game that counted, so the scouting video is better than they have of BG (we may not see BG's actual powerplay setup for another 2 weeks).

I'd be happy with a split given how the RMU game went.

Get swept it's a sign of a Problem.

Split and it's status quo, Win between 17 - 20 games, probably get knocked out in the semi-finals of conference tourney.

Sweep and we'll turn some heads and maybe a change is happening. The bar might be 23-26 wins and top three in the league.

Only 1 team in the league had 20 wins last year - Minnesota State. Want to change the narrative need two W's to start.

Can't disagree with any of this.

I still have Flo so I watched the Niagara/Saints replay. thoughts:

St. Lawrence is not very good. Bottom two CCHA team at best.

Niagara runs a 1-3-1 power play like we do. One would think we’d be ready for that since we run the same thing.

Niagara forecheck was pretty decent though was that because they are decent or that StL is so bad.

I’m still not sure what to expect tonight.

Fun thing about Flo, they haven't increased their subscription cost if you allow it to renew.

Anyways, Willy said 12 forward, 7D is the plan for the weekend. Powerplay 1 and 2. The exhibition had something like 60 different line combinations. I'd expect a bit more flow and rhythm to BG's game. First period may be a bit shaky with the guys getting used to each other in game, but once they settle in, we'll see what happens. Hopefully a lot less penalties.

The first period is over. It’s 0-0. And it’s pretty even play from both sides. We did kill off a 2-man down power play.

Patience…

Aside from a Pfoh breakaway that was stoned, there haven’t been many scoring chances. A totally different team has to come out for the third or we’re 0-1 to start.

One team is playing afraid to take a penalty, the other is playing like they know exactly what is and isn't going to get called. Timid hockey does not equal success.

Missed the first period because, who the hell starts a hockey game at 6pm on a Friday?
