vs. Bemidji State (10/31-11/1)

Post by mbenecke »

After sweeping LSSU this past weekend, our Falcons (2-2-0) will return home to the Slate to take on the Bemidji State Beavers (4-4-0) for their true home opener. Friday night’s game will begin at 7:07pm, with Saturday’s game starting at 6:07pm. Both will be available to stream on Midco.

Bemidji’s 4 wins are a 9-2/5-0 sweep of Anchorage and a 1-0/3-2 sweep of Augustana. Their 4 losses came against St. Cloud 3-2/4-2 and Duluth 7-3/5-1.

We know what to expect from this series. A lot of clutching and grabbing, not a lot of open ice. It’s going to be imperative that we limit their chances by playing disciplined, clean hockey. And it’s equally important that when we are fortunate to get a penalty call, we cash it in on the man advantage.

Go Falcons! Beat Bemidji.

I'm happy with a split. Beavers looked good against the Viqueens who are a home ice lock according to the CCHA Podcast Prognosticator Haters.

The CCHA Podcast Prognosticators had Dalton Norris on and it was a good interview. I listened to the entire thing. Summary: Mavs are awesome, Augie is awesome despite getting swept, Tech is awesome, Bemidji is awesome, BG has issues they need to work on despite being the only team to sweep on the road. I don't know why I let these guys get to me.

Below is a link to the podcast along with an index of BG-related topics.

BG/LSSU Series Recap – 56:07 / 12:43
Dalton Norris interview – 36:12 / 32:38
BG/BSU Series Preview – 22:01 / 46:49 (immediately following the Norris interview)

Time on the left is the time remaining in the podcast and what you'll see in the podcast player if you're accessing from the link. The time on the right is the number of minutes into the podcast (hopefully this makes sense).

It's an upper Midwest/Lakes favored conference. It's why BG needs to get out next round of realignment.

Jaden Grant is interviewed by the prognosticators. Excellent interview, well worth the 45 minutes.

Stjernberg is back in the lineup. Blake is a healthy scratch. Palmer gets the start in goal.

It’s 1-1. BG opened the scoring, Bemijdi tied it soon after.

I thought we carried the play for most of the period. We fell down, they scored. Need the PP to get one to start the second.

Best start to a game I’ve seen in a while, not a great 2nd period so far.

That period was the opposite of the first. They won the puck battles, they held it in our end, they forced us into mistakes that led to two goals. Gonna be tough to climb out of this hole.

Well, that was quite a comeback! Down two, tie it with the EA, make it through OT for the official tie, but lose in the SO. Given where we were after and with 8 min left, I’ll take it.

Niedermayer played as a defenseman. Saw quite a lot of ice time there the last half of the game. Korodiuk seemed to be benched for the entire third period, maybe earlier than that.

Blake and Lonergan were listed as scratches. Higgins was not.
