Attendance Problems for UM/CCHA Tournament

Post by BGDrew »

The team's final home game is on March 4th. This is the final day before Spring Break starts at BGSU. This pretty much means that we won't see a lot of students there in a pivotal game.

Also, if BG can get home ice for the CCHA first round, the first two games would occur on days where students are even allowed in the dorms. I think the Office of Res. Life should allow students to come back as early as the Saturday before classes start again.

I agree with you, but I don't think the higher ups in Residence Life really care about hockey attendance. Look at the grief that was passed out for the GMAC Bowl. Some people in that office need to be shown the door.

Guys, I feel your pain...but I'm afraid you're not likely to get anyone on that side of the school's administration to bend policy in order to make it easier for you to attend hockey game(s). I'd suggest you start networking through your friends who live off campus...sounds like a great excuse for an overnight party.

The bad part is that BG is in the minority of school's that actually kick its students out of the dorms over breaks. When I say kick out, I literally mean that if your found in your room one minute after the cut-off time, the cops are called.

Something tells me that this is all a bit of overreaction. I think a lot of our students will reallize how big of a deal it is to have home ice in the playoffs and will do everything necessary to be here. I'm probably a bit more dedicated than most, but I actually got a hotel room for the UT/BG game last year (my hotel room was about 400 ft. from my actual dorm room, but I got to go to the game!).

I think we all just need to calm down, and Finallyin04, as usual, I think you need to stop coming up with conspiracy theories involving Linda Newman. She's British. Giver her a break.

Hell, we can't even house our athletes that are still playing, once school is out!!!! The individual sports have to PAY for their housing once the dorms close. Even ones that have NO revenue!!!
It is time for the VP of Student Affairs to have a clue, and quit squeezing the Charmin!!!!

I'm not saying we should riot and raid the Res. Life office. (Please don't, they sign my paychecks!) I'll I'm saying is that there really isn't a reason to not have the dorms open when RAs are there.

I agree. If they have to come back early anyways, why not open the dorms?

This sounds like an issue that USG could actually have an impact on.

Unfortunatly, I've all but given up on USG doing anything productive. You never read about any resolutions being passed and I wouldn't even know who my representative is.

As a former member of USG this hurts to hear, but I cannot argue with it. You can go to the website and find your representative and even send them an e-mail. But, the persistent problem of not talking with all of the students they represent continues. I will give them props on dealing with the zoning and party issues concerning the city. But there has not been much legislation. Some of that is on the members of the Senate, but another part of that comes from an advisor and higher consistently telling USG that legislation should be "used as a last resort when other forms of communication fail." I only agree with this in part. But, that may be why we have seen little legislation from USG. I also have not seen anything about the meetings in the BG News for a while. And the television coverage is terrible. The group pays for the meetings to be recorded and broadcast but half the time the mic's are not working and all you get is a modern silent film. Also, the times the meetings are played is way to late. So there is my take on that.

And Bleeding Orange, I don't recall mentioning any names at all. I think the problems in Residence Life stem from more than just the one person whom you were so eager to name

Somone give Krebs a call....

Post by Falconboy »

Or whoever takes care of these things to change these stupid rules. This always hurts the attendance of home games of all sports during these breaks. This is just riducuolous, is there even a logical reason why they "kick" you out for break? :?

Krebs has nothing to do with the residence halls closing for breaks.

If the STUDENTS want to stay over break, then they should be in contact with USG and with RSA. These two organizations are designed to be the voices of the student body and of the resident students. Complaining on this board does nothing at all. But if these student organizations would take some action, they might be able to accomplish something.
