All we need is 1?

Post by bc ziggy 58 »

Someone (anyone) please correct me if I'm wrong, however the way I see the current standings, all we need is 1 point this weekend to secure 4th place? That would put us at 30 points along with UNO and we win that tie-breaker. Along with that, the best Miama can do if they sweep Tosu, (which they won't) would be 29.

Preseason prediction - # 9
Final standing - # 4

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is correct. We cannot finish below 5th (where we are right now). One point will put us in 4th. We own tiebreakers with UNO and Miami.

Quite an accomplishment for a team picked #8 or 9 in the CCHA preseason poll.

I am very happy for the coaches and players....and even more for the die hards that have followed this program much longer than me.

You also get a point for an overtime loss. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No, BGDrew is correct and I believe very much on his game. If you remember back to December at the Ledyard Classic when we played Dartmouth and tied, but then lost in sudden death overtime. We received one point for the tie, even though we technically lost the game.

Teams aren't awarded points for non-conference games.
BG tied Dartmouth. After one overtime, a shootout was held, because they want to get holiday games finished in a reasonable amount of time. Both teams were given a tie for their overall record, but again, no points as such. It just didn't penalize BG as much as a loss would have.

Yeah, but I thought that was because it was a tournament game. We got the point for getting the Tie, but in a tournament you have to have a winner to keep moving on. Therefore they played the overtime for the tournaments sake. I might be completely off on this, I can't even remember if they play overtime in the regular season.

That's right. Thanks for clearing that up.

They play OT in the regular season, but in college you don't get a point for it. At least not in the CCHA. That's a relatively new NHL rule, with the point for an OT loss. That tourney might have been different, or experimenting with the OT loss point, but regularly you only get points for a win or tie in OT.

They do play over time in the regular season. If I recall correctly, it is one 5 min period, sudden death. If no one scores, the game ends in a tie. This obviously won't always work in a tournement, however I am unfimilar with the college tournement and overtime. Someone please educate me if I'm wrong and what happens in the college play off's.
