Alumni Athletic Band - 1st Round CCHA Playoffs?

Post by 87JR »

I'm posting this in both the Hockey and Band forums. Let me know if you are interested in playing ([email protected])...

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

For the first time in ten years, the Falcon Icers will have home ice for the first round of the CCHA Playoffs. This best two-out-of-three game series against Alaska-Fairbanks is this coming weekend at the Ice Arena, with game times the usual 7:05 p.m. But with spring break, the Men's Chorus tour, and the MAC basketball tournament in Cleveland [both men's and women's] all happening at the same time, there just aren't enough musicians/faculty to go around.

If we can get a director, the correct instrumentation [we need at least one percussionist], and a large enough response, we alums will play for as many games as possible this coming weekend. We might be able to get a few students to help supplement our numbers, but the bulk of the musicians are going to have to be alums.

Please let me know by tomorrow [Monday] evening if you can help. Include your instrument and the date(s) you are available: Friday 03/11, Saturday 03/12, and/or Sunday 03/13 [the third game is played only if necessary]. We will meet in the NW corner stands of the Ice Arena around 6 p.m. each night.

I apologize for the short notice, but this is a great opportunity to help support the hockey program.

Please share this e-mail with your friends and other alums who you think would be interested.

Thanks - I look forward to hearing from you. We will be making a decision as to whether or not we'll be able to make this happen by the middle of the week [no later than Wednesday evening].

If you don't get enough alums, what about tapping into the BGHS band? They played at a mens and women's basketball series last year and did pretty well!! They did it over Christmas break and had a few BGSU students who hung around to help. I know we have had high school bands play in the rink before. Just a thought....WE NEED A BAND, no matter who is there to play the music!!

GO FALCONS!!
TAKE THE NANOOKS IN TWO!!!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I've never played for any BGSU band before, but I do play bass. If you guys are truly desperate for a bass player and can give me music in tab form (I can't read music), I would be more than happy to play at all of the games. Just let me know by PM.

Didn't Eastwood and Perrysburgh play at Hockey games last year? I could be mistaken on the schools, but I know there was at least one HS band that played at a hockey game recently.

I think it was Eastwood. And they did a great job, if I recall!!
