According to Jerry York, we will have a home game against Boston College.

Scroll down a little ways. He mentions playing a game at BG and then one at UM. Also mentions the job Scott Paluch did as an assistant coach.

That could possibly be the same weekend at a game against RIT (yes, the return of Wayne Wilson).

The CCHA cluster for next year is BGSU, ND, OSU, and Miami.

EDIT: Forgot about the UCONN Holiday Classic: BGSU, UCONN, UMASS, and either Colgate or Holy Cross.

The UConn Holiday Classic is going to be brutal. The only semi-respectable team you mentioned is Colgate, and they're not even a definite.

UMass could possibly be better than they were this season, but this season they were an exercise in futility.

I know tournaments are a good way to gain respectability on a national level, but this is not the tournament in which to participate.

It always is a screwy deal with one night early in the season counting then another late in the season. I would have to agree. OSU is on the same level as Michigan, I don't know much about Miami but I assume they're bringing some talent back which puts them ahead of MSU in my mind. I can only think and hope we'll be better, and then yes, there's Notre Dame.

I think since it will be a balanced schedule between the teams, they will all count. I *thought* it went by winning percentage when it was a balanced schedule. I could be wrong though.

Doesn't the Columbus Dispatch or some other newspaper award it?

Miami loses 3 seniors, two being real contributors from a team that was riddled with injuries during the main portion of the season. This cluster seems very wild. One has to think that ND will still be in cellar, but who knows? I think they were picked 4th in this seasons (04/05) pre season poll. So they obviously have talent but something else is wrong.

I have not seen the other clusters, but this one is awesome. Local rivalries and multiple opportunities to see your favorite team close to home.

Really Mike? What leads you to believe that? BG only getting better and were damn good this year, Miami returning nearly everyone from a underacheiving injury plagued squad, and a Notre Dame team that no one can figure out. I hope OSU gets 8th place. Or maybe 10th.

I tend to ignore him any more. He's worse than AJ from UNO when it comes to certain aspects. I know where AJ is coming from in that he does it for kicks and is not, generally, serious (crass, maybe, but not serious). Mike actually believes everything he spews forth, which makes it worse. When and if OSU ever goes back down into the toilet, MTM will go with them.

You know, when MtM said that, I brought up the point that BG was a TUC all season and Miami was for a goodly portion of it (I didn't have much defense for Notre Dame this season, although they did make the NCAAs two seasons ago). I asked how the Ferris St/Western Mich cluster was preferable to that in terms of helping OSU out on the national scale. He has no answer. And congrats to OSU for blowing a two-goal lead and losing to Cornell. Way to represent the CCHA. Hell, even Notre Dame did a better job when they beat Boston College!

And a brief point on Notre Dame: it has to be coaching. They've got something like nine draft picks on the team, which is a hell of a lot more than most teams have going for them talent-wise. I don't know if Poulin doesn't know how to get the most out of the players he has, if there's no accountability, or if the personality types of these players just clash on the ice, but the talent level is definitely there.

Anyhow, I see nothing but improvement out of BG next season and if Miami can avoid the injury bug, they should be outright dangerous!

I read the original post wrong. I thought it said BG would be AT Boston College, which would have been a doable train trip. Was hoping to get Noah to a Falcon hockey game. UConn tourney a possibility, I suppose.

Edit for my other post: ND was picked to finish 5th in the league. So whether it is coaching or accountability, etc, there is something wrong because the media and coaches have identified that they have talent.

Things just got a little different for next year. Brandon Crawford-West, our starting goalie has left the team for personal reasons. That leaves 2 returners, one that saw a few starts this past season and another that barely puts his skates one. But it looks like we are recruiting/signed the fellow netminder of a guy you recruited this year. Sioux City.

Interesting stuff. People are pretty bummed about this over on Hawktalk, but not that surprised. I could really care less of why he chose to leave, just hope him the best and that he has some sort of plan for the time being. Good luck to him, we like watching him play.

Wow that IS interesting. Strange things always seem to happen in the off season. Who is the netminder from Sioux City? Is it Jeff Zatkoff? I see he is listed on the recruiting website as giving a verbal committment today. We have Sioux City committments from Jimmy Spratt (goalie; drafted by Calgary in 2004) and Brian Bales (center). Good luck to Crawford-West on whatever the future has in store for him and to your new goalie as well...except when he is playing the Falcons!

It is Zatkoff. Our returners are Effinger and Hartley. Yes, that same Hartley. Effinger will be the starter, unless BCW comes back. But even then I am not sure. Blasi unrelenting when it comes to stuff like that. I am glad. Effinger will do a good job, but until he becomes comfortable, the team will have to score more consitently. This year it was 1-2 goals, then 4,5,6 the next game.

Something has to be board fodder in the offseason right?

You're right, we do need stuff to talk about on the off season...it's soooo agonizingly long!! And it's good to have a little hockey talk going on here, it's been much too quiet! I haven't gone over to your board in awhile, so have no idea what they are saying about why BCW left. I agree with you, that if it wasn't Blasi's idea for him to leave in the first place, coming back would do him no good, he'd be riding the pines for sure! On our side of the ice, replacing Siggy in net is not going to be an easy task, but the coaches are pretty excited about Jimmy Spratt coming in. We fully expect him to battle it out with Horrell for the #1 spot in net. Horrell is very capable of being #1 and his exerience working with Jordan and playing in some VERY big games will be his big advantage to start the year. Overall, cluster wise, I believe that we will be in a tough cluster. Your RedHawks are going to be very good, as will OSU, and no way will ND stay in the basement like they did this year. Coach Paluch thinks we could be in a tougher cluster than we were this year with MSU and the weasels. If that is the case, it's going to be a battle every night and a very exciting season!!! Geeeez, ...how many days 'til the season starts.....
