Calling all hockey experts.....

How do we look for this year guys? Hopefully the loss of Johnny Sigalet won't hurt too much. If I were him , I'd leave for greener pastures too.

That's the thing about hockey, one player leaving doesn't leave as large of a void as in Basketball. We might struggle a bit in the early season on the blueline till the guys get their chemistry, but the team is going to be strong this year, almost scary strong.

1.) We will look GREAT this year. We should finish in the top FOUR. Those that follow Falcon Hockey have seen that steady progression under Coach Paluch since he took over the program. They have also watched his staff recruit top-notch players year after year. We have more depth this year that we have had in a VERY long time. Players will be working hard to earn ice time and even very good players may be taking their turns sitting out a game or two.
Hopefully the loss of Johnny Sigalet won't hurt too much.
2.) His name is JONATHAN, not Johnny. He has NEVER been called that at BG. Given everything he has done for the team, calling him that sounds like a put-down. We are very proud of the time he was here, no matter how short. You WILL be seeing JONATHAN play in the NHL some day. While the Falcons will feel his loss at first, I am sure the other fine defensemen (and we have PLENTY) will step up and fill the void quickly.
If I were him , I'd leave for greener pastures too.
3.) WHY would you say he should leave for GREENER pastures? Only because of the money or because being on the Falcon hockey team wasn't good?

Ok...end of my rant.........

First of all, I can't resist this opportunity. Falconboy, you often complain about how much crap you take on this board. I want you to do something for me. Take off your condescending glasses and re-read what you just posted. Are you done? Good. Now, the reason you catch so much crap is because you either A.) are an uncaring, heartless jackass, B.) don't think for a second before you post anything, or C.) in the case of hockey don't take the time to learn ANYTHING and rely on others to educate you about every aspect of the program and the game. I truly hope it is one of the latter two options because they are the only ones you can easily fix.

If you don't think before you post, here's a clue: THINK BEFORE YOU POST! There are a lot of people around here that are very passionate about Bowling Green hockey. You weren't here in 1984 when we won a NC and neither was I, but the difference between you and me is that I can appreciate the success that this program has had and will have again (much, much sooner than you may be capable of believing). When you post random stupid crap it offends people who do care about this program.

If the fact of the matter is that you don't know much about hockey, it isn't that hard of a game to learn. Yes, it moves fast, but it is no more complex than any other sport in terms of the rules. Take the time to learn the rules of hockey and the intricacies that go into it. Two good resources are INCH.com and USCHO.com. Reading and seeing are two different things, sure, but once you read all of the rules they will all become evident naturally as you watch the game live. As a BG alum, there is no excuse not to know the rules of hockey. If you don't that means that you missed out on a great, great tradition at BG while you were a student here.

Now, back to your question. Yes, JONATHAN was a very, very good defenseman, and he will most certainly be missed by our program and our fans. But, he was just one defenseman on a very talented team. If you look into it a little bit more, you will see that our Falcons are a much better recruiting program under Pooch than they were before him. That is not to say anything against our former beloved coach or the outstanding young men that he recruited, but recruiting is one of Coach Paluch's strengths. If you ever meet him in person you will know why immediately. The players we are recruiting now are much better than those we were recruiting just four or five years ago. Consequently, one outstanding player leaving the program earlier than anticipated is not a major concern as it would have been those four or five years ago. It's kind of like the fuel tank on an A-10 Warthog. The metal skin now surrounding our program not only doesn't spark when it is hit by a bullet, but it heals itself immediately. No one player is bigger than this program -- that is why we have seen the steady increase in the success of this program over the past couple of years, and that is exactly the reason why this type of success will continue to build in the coming years.

I'm done with my rant now. Thank you for your attention! :P

Falconboy let me put it in perspective. Jonathan leaving early would be like Chuck leaving our football team early. It would hurt a little but there are others to fill the spot. That's what you want your program to be like, even if you lose one link you fill it with another and move on. Our hockey team will continue to get better and better, if you really want to know how good our team will be this year be at the ice arena on Oct. 15 and you'll find out first hand.

Hey now, lets all be civil and nice here. Remember, we do not want Grant, well maybe Mike now shutting down this site again for a few weeks. Remember what happened last time. As someone once said, "Can't we all just get along" or better yet "There's no CRYING in Hockey!!"

Well folks i have been fortunate. i have been watching Falcon hockey since 1976. I can tell you this for sure, that last year was the first year since the years of Coaches York and Mason that our guys had such a good work ethic in practice. I believe and dont mistake this that Powers is a good coach of hockey, and realy has a great understanding of the game, I just bellieve he is not a good head coach, which is what we now have, again.

i dont see the team chem for a run at the National Championship yet, but i do see being very competitive inthe CCHA, and as such finishing well at the Joe this year.
We have a great core of players, being coached very very well, we have some great recruits and some realy good kids tryin to walk on again. We are returning to our place ...rightful place as a top tier CCHA team playing our game, a fast paced hard hitting game.
and your right while johnathan has gone, we have very good depth at D and will be fine, best of luck to him.

Okay, you can stop hyperventilating now. :? Sorry about the "Johnny" thing. I have a friend that is named John that I happen to call Johnny as term of endermeant thing. Nothing to do with putting down the person. Now as far as me thinking its not a surprise that Jonathan would leave is simple. Your offered a contract to make lots of money in the pro's as opposed to still playing in college for a team that probably had its major chance of finishing high in the playoffs last season with the best goalie in BG history at the helm in Jordan Sigalet. He probably figures why bother stay with a team that is breaking in a new goalie when you might as well make some money in the NHL. Nothing personal , its just makes sense to me, and its not surprising that he would do that. If you can't see the simple obvious point in that then maybe the orange glasses are on a tad too tight. You take every word of mine to the extreme. Please before you rant. Just ask me what I mean , if you dont' get it.

And I'm just asking what you the falcon hockey experts what you guys think about are chances for success this year. We do this all the time for basketball and football and noone goes into a tizzy like you guys. You act like I insulted your mother or something. So please try not to "read" so deep into what I'm saying and just take it for what it is. I'm excited and hopefull that we can get it done this year and actually get to the Joe. I have the same skeptism and hopefulism before every football and baskestball season. Every year each team of these sports have something to prove. If you read my posts in football forums you'll see I have good mild optomism for football cuz even though our offense is might be sickly good it won't mean a thing if we can't stop anybody, so I'm constantly reminding everybody that the key to us getting a MAC championship in football will be our defense. Even though football & basketball our my main sports of choice to either play or watch, I'm still not so sensitve I can't point out where I think we're a little weak at. There's alot of major expectations of the football after these nearly 5 seaons of success because of what we've done as far as getting to bowl games and beating the Purdu's , Northwesterns and such. The lack of rabid optomism from me on hockey is simply cuz they got to really do something to bring up my expectation of them. Right now I dont' have much to go on as far thinking we're headed to the Joe at this point. Falcon hockey has go and prove or have proven it recently in the past before I just start expecting it every season. See where I'm coming from yet? Gosh , I sure hope so. I'm not sitting around waiting for the hockey team to bomb like you guys probably think. I earnestly waiting for their success. The recruits we're getting seem to be the kind that we'll get us there eventually.

BTW , hope Paulach is able to find a fine replacement for the assistant that just left.

Go Falcon Hocky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Falcon Football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MORE IN '05!!!!!

WISCONSIN , YOUR DEAD MEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
