I cannot imagine that we would let one of the top recruits in the country sit on the bench. You don't see too many redshirts in hockey, you don't have enough players on scholarship to really redshirt them.

The only red shirts you ever see in hockey are medical.
Wow!

I'm surprised we got this kid. This kid is that good? Cool. Its weird that we can land a top 15 kid in hockey but we have no chance of getting a similier ranked kid in football or basketball.

It's all about the conference. The CCHA is a top hockey conference. I love the MAC but it has nowhere near the clout that the CCHA does.

Much to the chagrine of a lot of people, BG is better known as a hockey school than basketball or football. Recruiting kids here has been tougher than it used to be due to the fall off of the program in recent years but Paluch, Fogerty, and Patrick have done a steller job in promoting the history of the program and their quest to return it to the top. (And I'm sure that new coach Dumont will do an equally steller job in that department.)
This is Paluch's third recruiting class and it's the third class in a row to be ranked among the nation's best!

falconboy - If you come to a game this year I suggest you take a trip into the new addition and take a look at the wall next to the coach's office. On that wall you'll find pictures of all of NHL hockey players who have come through the BG program....and there are a lot of them. The NCAA banners hanging in the ice arena will attest to the success this program has seen in the past and will see again in the future. Have you noticed the NCAA championship banner? Show a recruit those banners, show a recruit the NHL wall of fame, and show a recruit the TWO Hobey Baker awards (awarded to college hockey's BEST player) and he will understand what it means to be a part of this storied program and the quest to return it to its glory!

Oh I know we have several hockey falcons in the NHL. I've seen somebody with collecting cards of one of the guys from several years back (can't remember who). I guess if this is Paluch's 3rd straight high ranked recruiting class , then we should be expecting a decent jump in our play and overall record this year hopefully. :-\ To get this Schimdt kid is great! I'll reserve predictions on what we'll do this years win-loss wise till we play our first good team this season.

I'm as excited this season as I could be, but I'm anxious to see if Spratt is the real deal. Is Spratt technically a Freshman?

Yes, he's a true freshman and, like all freshman, he'll have to win the number one goalie position. From what I understand Horrell is in the best shape of his career so it won't be an easy thing to do.

I hope one of them steps up. I didn't go to more than 3-4 games last year, but it seems our style has a tendency to leave the goalie out to dry on occasion. I like the style we play, but it was real nice having Siggy back there that we could depend on...hope one of the guys steps up to carry the torch

Horrell looked solid when we played scUM last year during one of Jordan's attacks. If he just improves he could be a great goalie.

I was just thinking about that game. I was there and I was amazed at how well he was able to keep up with the 'Goons. I believe we lost 5-4, but it was a fast-paced game on both sides and I was impressed time and again with the glove saves Horrell was flashing. I remember turning to an arrogant Michigan fan who was giving the group I was with crap throughout the game and saying to him something to the effect of: "And thats our BACKUP goalie!" He just shook his head. Priceless.
I'm going to miss Jordan just like everyone else associated with Falcon hockey will for a long, long time. But that being said, I'm not too worried about our goalie situation this year - especially if Spratt is even half as good as advertised. 8)
