STEELHEADS GET ANOTHER FORWARD FROM IOWA STARS
DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced that the club has reassigned forward D'Arcy McConvey (mc-on-vay) to the club's ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.
Idaho Steelheads Head Coach Derek Laxdal said, “I got a chance to watch McConvey at Iowa’s camp. He’s a very skilled centerman that will be a great addition on our top line between Mike Stutzel and Garrett Bembridge. This line is a line that may not be here all year because they are good enough to play at the next level.”
McConvey, a 5’10, 190-pound, 24-year-old, posted 23 goals and 31 assists in 60 games last season with the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL. Prior to Columbia, he played four years with Bowling Green State University where he tallied 31 goals and 71 assists (102 points) in 153 games. He will join the Steelheads’ training camp, which reports for physicals on October 6th.
The Idaho Steelheads are the double-A developmental affiliate of the American Hockey League’s Iowa Stars and the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars.
the steelies have been a solid organization, winning the ECHL championship just two years ago.
what else can you tell me about McConvey than what's in this press release? i'll probably go to opening night and a number of games this year...
thanks...

You'll like D'Arcy, but I'd hope he's not there long enough for you to get used to him. (Nothing against Boise, but I'd be real surprised if he's not moved back up to Iowa).
We had the pleasure of getting to know him and his family real well over his four years here. He's got soft hands, quick feet, and great vision. He's smart as a whip, and a natural leader. He was captain both his Junior and Senior seasons, and was a top-notch student. Sadly, we didn't have alot of talent around him, and defenses could really key on him.
You say you want stuff that's not in the press release? How 'bout this...he's a gifted public speaker, has got a fantastic singing voice and is violently allergic to peanuts.

I want to second everything Freddie said, except maybe the singing voice part.
I'll toss out there that he was on Making the Cut, a reality-type show in Canada. Essentially 64 guys attended a summer training camp and six of them earned tryouts with an NHL team. Not much of a prize last season, granted
D'Arcy was cut by Mike Keenan himself, who told him that he had all the skills, but he was too short.
I also wanted to add that he was my favorite player while I attended BGSU.
Obviously

thanks guys.
i'm sure he'll like playing in Boise, even if it's just for a few games or weeks until he gets called up. our arena is pretty new (less than 10 years) and attendance has been strong over the years. players seem to really enjoy the atmosphere.
look forward to seeing him on the ice... unless he starts singing.
thanks again!

No, man. The real D'Arcy is not a Whalers fan.
Besides, I'm way cuter!

i'm not sure what's going on with mylymok. he played last year as kind of a player/assistant coach. so far he's not listed on the roster, but we've got a new coach who's bringing in a slew of new players.
i think jeremy lives here year-round now and was hoping to get an assistant coaching position with the steelies once he retired, but not sure if the new coach is bringing in his own staff or what.

speak of the devil... just got this PR from the steelheads:
STEELHEADS HOOK THREE FAMILIAR FACES
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that three former players, Jeremy Mylymok, Marty Flichel and Justin Cox, will attend this season’s training camp and vie for a spot on the 2005-06 opening day roster.
Mylymok, 33, will enter into his sixth season with Idaho. The 6’0”, 200-pound defenseman has three championships under his belt; the last as captain of the 2003-04 ECHL Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads. He was also an integral part of the Chicago Wolves team that won the 1998 and 2000 International Hockey League (IHL) Turner Cups. While on Idaho’s roster, Mylymok was named the 2001 West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) Defenseman of the Year and was named to the 1st Team on the WCHL’s All Star roster.
he probably has a good chance to make the squad; he's been a fan favorite.

Keep me updated. Jeremy Mylymok rules!! He's been one of my favorites since he played with the Toledo Storm. I saw his first professional game
