Calling All Students! (Update 11-7)

With the success of the Anderson Animals, I would like to try and start up a fan group for the Hockey team. What I need is students willing to volunteer time to help get the group off the ground. You can either leave a message here, PM me, or drop me an e-mail at [email protected]

I hope to get a large amount of students interested and hopefully involved.

BTW, here is the e-mail I sent to Coach Paluch:

Dear Coach Paluch:

I'd first like to thank you for how much you have done for the hockey program here at Bowling Green. You represented our University tremendously during your playing days, and now your coaching is bringing respect back to our program.

The reason for me contacting you is that I am interested in starting a hockey-specific student group. Other groups such as the Anderson Animals (http://www.andersonanimals.com) have been very successful in unifying students and making our facilites a great home advantage. The problem is that financially, it would be very difficult for me to financially support a group such as this.

I feel the number one job of the student section is to cheer on their team, and make it a difficult venue for the visiting team. I'd like to start a student group in which students would cut down on the vulgar chants and help to try and fill our Barn every game night with positive fans. All I'm asking of you is possibly pointing me in a direction in which I can help get this group off the ground. I am willing to put in however many hours of my time as long as I can help improve our program in any way.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Go Falcons!

THIS IS AWESOME!!! It's is exactly what Paluch wants! That is why he has hosted a student gathering in the lounge every year. Both years students got t-shirts. Were you there this year? I am sure you have seen the shirts that say ICE PACK on the back!! KUDOS TO YOU!!!

Let me know if I can help with anything. Writing of the section A Screamer or what-not.

I would also love to come back to teach the young 'uns. January may be my best bet.

I'll do what I can.

God I love hockey.

Right now my idea is to get some things printed out that we can hand to the students and try and lead some cheers. It's got to start small, so if anyone has any ideas as to what you'd like to see happen, let me know.

Thank you, BGDrew. This is EXACTLY what we've been trying to get started. As FF said, being old section A fans we would be more than happy to help in any way possible. We still know a large number of the old cheers and, if you want, we can put them in a word document or whatever, that could be passed around, tweaked, updated or whatever you need to do to make them work.

As I pointed out before, trying to get under the opposing goalie's helmet is the best help that the student section can give to the team. Distracting him in any way possible will make this the hardest venue for opposing teams to visit. That's why sections A & H are so important since that is where you can get to him for 2 periods. What I think would be cool, if you can pull it off, is (while attendance is still down and moving isn't a problem) to get section E to change sections each period and follow the opposing goalie. Say first period in section A, second period in section E, and third period in section H. THAT would absolutely drive him nuts. Stuff like that will help bring this program back to the top where it belongs!

I had a family emergency come up this weekend so I won't be making it to the games this weekend. I will be here for Northern Michigan. Keep coming up with ideas though, and we can get something rolling.

Totally cool BGDrew! BTW, employers really respect that kind of stuff. It shows leadership that you have passion for something, and are willing to do the work to start something & see it through. Way to go!!!

Sorry to hear that!! Hope everything turns out ok. We will be thinking of you. In the mean time, we will get a list of cheers together that can be printed up and discussed when you return!!

I like the idea of printing out a page of cheers and chants and then passing them out to all the students before games. I think that would work real well. Our student section at hockey games is pretty good I think. It's usually full and we know we have set cheers for certain things during the course of a game. Now from what I've heard, back in the 80's it was really awesome and crazy. It's great that we can try to improve our student section and give it an identity. Good thinking BGDrew!
Go Falcons!!!!!!! Let's get a home win tonight!

Hey all, I've received a few e-mails and PMs and I'm really happy with the support I've received thus far.

I was most surprised with what showed up in my mail box today:

Drew,

Thanks for your support for FALCON Hockey. We have done some student support
meetings and would encourage even more leadership for this. I am going to
have Spencer Schmidt, my assistant who is our link to the students contact
you and assist get some ideas so we can help in any way possible.

Thanks again for your support,

Coach Paluch

It's official, Pooch is my favorite coach ever.

Don't know how much help I can be, but since I feel at least a little responsible, please let me know how I might be of assistance...
