BRINGING BACK THE TRADITIONS!!!!

Did everyone check out the papers that were on the seats in the Ice Arena on Saturday night?
It was so good to see some of the cheers that the students and fans yelled in the '80's back again. Bring those newspapers this weekend - and get ready to start counting out those goals ( as soon as the band stops playing).
Anyone been around long enough to remember when section A and section H used to yell back and forth to each other? The students sat in section A just to make the opposing team, coaches, and fans miserable.
How about Buhlah's Bugle? The paper that the students published for every home game. Named after Buhlah's Motel - where they stayed at Lake Placid for the National Championship in '84.
Bring Back the Traditions - so families don't have to worry about the language their kids are going to hear in the cheers from the student section.
Pooch is doing a great job of coaching and recruiting. Falcon Hockey is back - and I would just like to say

" GO GREEN, GO WHITE - GO SUCK AN EGG!"

You can thank Falcon Fanatic for those sheets.

I'm not sure if the traditions can come back the way they were.

For instance, I was yelling at the drummer not to play when the crowd said "and they still suck!" Because, I told him, that we are no U of M fans and thus should not be vulgar.

Unfortunately, my pleas fell on deaf ears. The counting didn't happen because noone know how to do them. I believe that one may be gone for good.

Counting the goals

The folks in Section C have been there since the '80's - we'll help with getting the goal counting started again.
Thanks for the hand outs - it was a great idea.
I suppose we can no longer throw hats out on the ice for hat tricks, huh?

Glad people took notice of the sheets and the yelling!!! We tried our best, we just need to keep it up! If there is ANYTHING I want to get back, it's the GOAL COUNTS!!! That one is SOOOO important to the atmosphere of the game! Of course when the score is still 1-0 until nearly the end of the game...it's hard to do!

And RWF, there are a LOT of us who remember all those things you listed in the first post. BGFan and I used to fight for those seats on the glass of Section A!! Last night's game was the MOST fun since those glory days!!! Felt almost like '84 all over again!!!!

GO ICERS!!
BUST THE BRONCOS!!!

Well, if it means anything (and I fear it doesn't), I was alone in the student section counting off our one goal in the first period. I was going to try and teach the people that I was with how to do it, but it was such a defensive game that this did not happen.

Mark my words: the goal counting can and will come back, it is just going to take some effort on the part of the die-hards. Do you want some motivation? Even Arizona fans count off goals for Icecats games! Granted, their tradition is not nearly as cool as ours (in fact I can't even remember it - its been a while), but they do it and that is the point. THEY LIVE IN A FREAKIN' DESERT. If they can do it, it is only a matter of time until we can do it!

I wish I could be here to help bring all of these traditions back, but its off to the cacti for me again, tomorrow. :( Thanks for a great time, everyone!

Is BG's goal count exactly like Miami's? Is it the exact same everywhere?

(hold hand up in the air with the fingers of how many goals your team has during the fight song)
ONE!(extend fingers to count)
TWO!
THREE!
We want MOOOOORE(wave hand around in a circle) GOALS!
Sieve!(point at opposing goalie and waggle your index finger)
Sieve!
Sieve!
It's all your fault!(Point and continueing waggling)
(some scream "You Suck!" as a second line in between)
It's all your fault!
It's all your fault!

That's how Miami does it. Is BG's similar, or exactly the same?

Nope....that's a rip off of UM's goal count.

In it's heyday ours went like this:

One!
Two!
Three!
Four!
We want more!
We want more!
We want more!

(next while pointing at the opposing goalie)

Go!
Go!
Go!
Go!

B.G. Goal Count

Anything cool in Hockey Cheers was originated in B,G, in the late 70's and early 80's. Bowling Green was known for having some of the most vocal and knowledgeable hockey fans anywhere.

After every B.G. Goal, you begin the count by holding up your arm and counting the number of goals - followed by WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE ( clapping while saying this ) then GO, GO, GO, GO, GO ( while pointing at the opposite teams goal )

Back when Pooch was playing here, the students used to be lined up five hours before the doors opened ( an hour before the game ) - just to get to a seat in the section they wanted to sit in.

The six wins in a row will bring the hockey fans back. We should have a big turn out this weekend.

It would appear the Gameday/Promotions has gone to more of a "make money" mindset then to try and create an atmosphere in the Barn.

Now that I think about it, seems to be the same across the board.

Those were the days. Running into the arena and stretching out over four or five seats so your buddies had a seat when they made it out to the arena.

And even those of us who had reserved seats sat in Section A because it was so much fun. :D

I would love more than anything to see/hear some (clean) chants booming through the arena. Admittedly, when I first started coming to games, I was very vulgar and negative, but the more children I see at the games the more I realize the need for a little class.
I don't boo anymore (except OSU, I couldn't help it) and I am no longer vulgar at the games.
Hearing about the way things used to be really makes me wish they could get to be that way now. Between now and when I graduate (and maybe after, depending on where I live), I will do my best to help get that arena rocking again.
Also, anyone know where I can find some temporary orange hair spray or orange gel? I have a mohawk and would love to color it and spread the spirit at the games.

Isn't the Shed right next to subway and SBX. They had all sorts of hair dye. Of course the store might not be there anymore so what do I know.

Hmm, I'll have to check there. I forgot about that place for a second. I hope it is still there, but they were having a going out of business sale last semester, so we'll see.
Thanks for the heads-up!
