...should include bleachers in both sections A and E - and they should be facing each other in any design.

After reading through a lot of the post and blog entries about the old traditions of these two storied sections, it is clear to me that there is no way the that the notion of the "Bleacher Creatures" should ever die. Period. Perhaps these sections could be designated as student sections in any new facility?

No matter what happens, this is a tradition, no matter how far removed, that should never pass into the annals of history. I know that most new arenas are moving to chair-backed seats rather than bleachers, but I really feel that including bleachers solely in these two sections would be a profound structural statement of the history of BGSU hockey and those that have rabidly supported it throughout the years. It may be one of the most unique homages in all of college hockey.

Just something to think about, and perhaps encourage, as the Ice Arena feasiblity study comes out in the coming weeks or months.

I agree. There are a couple of reasons to have both seats and bleachers.

First - you can charge more for a backed seat than a bench. Today they are wider and more comfortable than ever before. (Curved and contoured backs and seats, cup holders, and the plastics seem more comfortable). Typical seat width (not including arms is 21 inches)

Second and more important - The building code allows you to use 18" of bench length per person. Therefore you can naturally "Sqeeze" in more patrons and your attendance numbers (and allowable occupancy to increase) when you have a popular sport.

Bench seating creates a more relaxed setting for fans also. The closeness helps comradery. If all seems less... formal. College Hockey not about sitting quietly and watching the game. That game is called baseball.

Looking at the renderings of the new Miami Ice House, there does not seem to be any bench sections. I think it is best to have areas of the seating look like the "Student Section" ...... I think that will prove to be a mistake at Miami. It will prove to be the nicer..... quieter Goggin.

Why bother to put any seats in the student section?...they all seem to want to stand the entire game anyway.
